The goal of the UC3M Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism is to form professionals who are prepared to direct and manage tourism companies, identify and undertake business initiatives, manage and supervise companies or other public or private institutions in the sector, manage and plan resources, itineraries and tourist destinations and create specific products.
This degree offers students in-depth knowledge of the tourism sector that will enable them to adapt to the constant changes of the market. Students will acquire a multidisciplinary education that integrates the disciplines involved in the tourism sector: economics, business, law, geography, sociology, history, art, urban planning, computer science and literature, among others.
Given its practical and applied nature, they will be able to broaden their knowledge of the profession with internships in leading companies, entities and organizations.

Exchange programs
The Erasmus programme permits UC3M first degree and post graduate students to spend one or several terms at one of the European universities with which UC3M has special agreements or take up an Erasmus Placement, that is a work placement or internship at an EU company. These exchanges are funded with Erasmus Grants which are provided by the EU and the Spanish Ministry of Education.
The non-european mobility program enables UC3M degree students to study one or several terms in one of the international universities with which the university has special agreements. It also has funding from the Banco Santander and the UC3M.
These places are offered in a public competition and are awarded to students with the best academic record and who have passed the language threshold (English, French, German etc..) requested by the university of destination.

The degree in Tourism is multidisciplinary and, while it does not require any specific knowledge apart from that acquired in pre-university education, students should have the following qualities:
- Initiative and an enterprising spirit A positive attitude towards problem-solving and enthusiasm for justifying their actions.
- A collaborative attitude which allows them to obtain the necessary information and knowledge from others in order to take decisions.
- A comprehensive outlook which enables them to relate different types of facts and events and understand the multi-causality of social and economic realities.
- An honest, scientific attitude which assists the handling, interpretation and production of information objectively and accurately.
- A readiness to participate, which, through direct contact with the territory, enables them to observe, recognize and interpret directly the facts and processes occurring.
- A critical, committed and responsible attitude which will lead to an awareness of the risks and consequences of their actions on society and the environment.
Furthermore, students should embark on their studies aware that they are taking a university degree in an institution of the standing of the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, characterized by its search for excellence in research and teaching. They should therefore also possess the following attitudes:
- Responsibility. Students should be aware that daily work will enable them to achieve the goals and that the amount of effort they put in will determine the results.

Graduates in Tourism will be equipped to undertake any kind of function in the management of businesses and public organisations in the tourist sector. They will also be able to manage territories and tourist destinations and define tourist policies and programs.
Learning outcomes of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism
1. Knowledge of Titles
K1 - Understand the principles of tourism, its spatial, social, cultural, legal, political, labour and economic dimensions, as well as its dynamic and evolving nature, and acquire a comprehensive view of the phenomenon of tourism.
K2 - Understand the relationship between economy and society in a world strongly conditioned by technological advances and climate change, with the aim of developing tourism activities that contribute to sustainability.
K3 - Know the regulatory peculiarities that allow them to foresee the economic consequences that may arise from non-compliance with the regulations corresponding to those they will have to face in their professional activity.
K4 - Understand the fundamentals of statistical analysis and the management of diverse sources of information, and be able to process and analyse information to reach conclusions (about the market, society, etc.) that are useful for professional activity.
K5 - Understand all the economic concepts necessary for business management at an accounting and financial level (purchases, costs, income, etc.), being able to identify and carry out economic and financial transactions, as well as learn how to record and manage them ethically, respecting the code of ethics that is mandatory for all accountants.
K6 - Understand and use computer applications in tourism organisations, as well as the fundamental structures of marketing tourism products using new technologies.
K7 - Knowledge of different foreign languages at a level sufficient to enable comprehension, expression and application of specific tourism-related terminology in their professional activity.
K8 - Knowledge of history relevant to tourism and understanding of artistic and cultural phenomena, enabling recognition of culture, heritage and works of art of interest for the development of tourism activities.
K9 - Know the principles and values of democracy and sustainable development, in particular respect for human rights and fundamental rights, gender equality and non-discrimination, the principles of universal accessibility and climate change.
K10 - Know basic humanistic content, oral and written expression, following ethical principles and completing a multidisciplinary training profile.
2. Skills of Titles
S1 - Understand and apply technical and methodological knowledge related to tourism to their work in a professional manner, with the ability to develop and defend effective and appropriate arguments for problem solving within their field of study.
S2 - Communicate information, ideas, arguments, problems and solutions from any of the disciplines studied related to tourism to both specialised and non-specialised audiences, orally and in writing, in a clear, well-organised, effective and convincing manner, using appropriate language.
S3 - Critically apply new information to problem solving, updating pre-existing knowledge and developing continuous learning skills that allow adaptation to new challenges and situations with a high level of autonomy.
S4 - Plan and organise teamwork by making the right decisions based on available information and gathering data in digital environments.
S5 - Apply knowledge to identify social processes and possible solutions with rigour, precision and scientific objectivity.
S6 - Propose effective and viable solutions to economic problems based on the identification and critical and systematic analysis of relevant economic information.
S7 - Offer viable and legally sound solutions to problems specific to different areas of law (civil, administrative, labour, commercial, etc.) applicable to the field of tourism activities.
S8 - Apply the knowledge, skills and techniques of the different disciplines associated with tourism, such as Economics, Humanities and Business Administration and Management, to the rigorous study of issues related to tourism activities, using appropriate terminology and scientific methods.
S9 - Be able to plan and develop business activities at a competitive and corporate level, creating value and improving the competitiveness of tourism companies from a global perspective, integrating diverse cultural values and incorporating international experiences.
S10 - Use information by interpreting relevant data, avoiding plagiarism, and in accordance with academic and professional conventions in the field of study, being able to evaluate the reliability and quality of such information.
S11 - Demonstrate good interpersonal communication and the ability to work in multidisciplinary and international teams, with skills to organise, negotiate and guide others in specific projects in their professional field.
3. Competences of Titles
C1 - Understand and be able to manage interpersonal skills related to initiative, responsibility, conflict resolution, negotiation, etc., which are required in the professional sphere.
C2 - Apply an understanding of the interrelationships between the physical environment and human societies to the management of activities in organisations in the tourism sector, using geographical criteria to interpret spaces, landscapes and cartography.
C3 - Develop innovative business projects in the tourism field that apply creative thinking to identify opportunities and formulate creative ideas that respond to the challenges of today's societies.
C4 - Plan and implement business policies and initiatives that contribute to solving complex problems in the field of tourism, compiling, processing and interpreting relevant information, identifying the peculiarities of national and international markets, effectively managing available resources, and using information and communication technologies (ICT) to implement sustainable and quality practices.
C6 - Design and manage innovative and sustainable tourism products, services and activities, using information and communication technologies to ensure quality processes, implement continuous improvement policies and optimise customer service, while respecting the environment and promoting responsible practices.
C7 - Design and implement, in the professional sphere, tourism offerings based on the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage, the promotion of sustainability and critical consideration of the cultural modalities and representations linked to tourism (scientific, literary, artistic, cinematographic, advertising, among others).
