    The globalization of markets and the change in competition policies in the industrial sectors have caused national and international industrial structures to undergo a great deal of change in the short and medium term. In facing the challenges these changes entail, developed and developing countries are in need for experts in industrial Economics with the high-quality training this Master's Degree provides. The objective of this program is to produce such experts through solid training in three key areas: Industrial Organization, Business Economics and Quantitative Economic Analysis.

    This Master's degree is a two-year program. The first year consists of courses on Microeconomics, Quantitative Economic Analysis, Finance, and Business Economics, common to all specializations in this program. The second year offers core courses in Industrial Organization (Regulation and Competition Economics), and three areas of specialization on the Economic Sectors of Energy, Transport, and Telecommunications, as well as a dissertation.

    Faculty from the Economics, Business Economics and Statistics Departments at Carlos III University are in charge of the Master courses. All faculty members have Doctorate Degrees (Ph.D) from prestigious, internationally known universities. These Departments are committed to academic excellence.

    According with the latest well-known ranking by Tilburg University on Economics Research (2011-2015) the Department of Economics at UC3M is placed 38th in the world, 15th in Europe, and 2nd in Spain. In addition, in a recent comparison, sponsored by the European Economic Association and published in the Journal of the European Economic Association (JEEA, vol. 1(6) (2003) pp. 1346-1366), the Department of Economics was ranked number 52 in the world, 9th in the European Union, and 2nd in Spain; and in EconPhd Ranking, 10 worldwide in Econometrics, 33 in Public Economics, 40 in Microeconomics, 50 in Labour & Consumer Economics, 90 in Macroeconomics.

    This faculty is complemented with professionals from different companies who share their invaluable experience and in-depth knowledge of the different sectors which the Master specializes in.       The request is made electronically through our application. Before starting the admission process it is important to consult the supporting information that we offer below:


      All candidates must hold a college degree or equivalent (in any country). Candidates in their last year to complete their degree may also apply. In this case, the acceptance is conditioned upon the completion of the degree.


      Language requirements

      Core Courses will be conducted in English, along with the application the student must show proof of proficiency in the English language by submitting the results of either the First Certificate of English from Cambridge ESOL Examinations, or a TOEFL score; or the British Council IELTS (International English Language Testing System). To obtain admission in the Master, the GMAT exam is not necessary.

      In order to carry out internships in companies and institutions, it is advisable but not required, for non-Spanish speaking students to have a basic knowledge of Spanish. We recommend to use a level DELE A2 (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) issued by the Instituto Cervantes, or equivalent. Those students who do not have the recommended Spanish level should take Spanish courses offered by the UC3M Language Center during the first year. There are some courses fully compatible with the Master schedule, two intensive courses, one before the beginning of the course, on September, and another one on July, once the course is over. In addition four more courses are offered starting on September, December, February, and May.

      Admission criteria

      Admission will be decided by the Master Academic Committee. Candidate selection will be done on the basis of the following criteria: a copy of the degree certifícate, transcript of grades, two letters of reference (*), a motivation letter and a curriculum vitae.
      The scale shall is as follows:

      Grades and quality of the University of origin 70%
      Curriculum vitae 10%
      Reference (*) and motivation letters 20%
      Knowledge of English**

      Language requirements

      You can check the language requirements of the generic language required to study for a Master at UC3M, depending on whether it is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

      Foreign students

      Once admitted to the Master, foreign students with university degree issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EEES must present, for enrollment, the diploma attesting to equivalent training that allows access to postgraduate studies, legalized by diplomatic procedures, or “The Hague Convention Apostille”. More information about Legalization of Documents.

      If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

      • Reservation fee: 800€ (It will be paid once the student receives notification of admission to the master, and deducted from the first tuition payment)

      60 ECTS in the first academic year:

      • EU students: 7.800€ (130€/ECTS credit)
      • Non EU students: 11.700€ (195€/ECTS credit)

      Additional information

      • You can register on the Master’s degree program when you have finished the application admission process and you have received your acceptance.
      • When performing the enrollment you can choose between Full-time enrollment or Part-time enrollment.
      • The email address which the University provides to the student upon enrollment will be used principally for communications with said student. For this reason, it is essential that it be actualized and periodically consulted.
      • Failure to make payment shall result in non-admission or termination of enrollment according to that established by the University. In case of annulment of registration because of failure to make payment, Universities can demand payment for previous enrollment in earlier academic years as a previous condition for enrollment.
        Universities shall not issue a diploma or certificate when a student has payments of any kind pending.

    UC3M Scholarships for the Year 2018/2019 *

    For the academic year 2018-19 has been published a call for a maximum of 14 grants for payment of the net enrollment rates for students accepted into the Master, with the following provision:

    • 8 grants of € 6,000
    • 6 grants of € 9,000

    Application deadline: 31st May 2018.

    Two possible resolutions: March or June 2018.

    The number of grants and amounts specified in the Annex to the notice, may vary depending on the conditions of the candidates who apply to them, can be even deserted as assessed by the Selection Committee for each program.

    Option A: European Mobility with recognition of ECTS

    Selected students in this program will have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad with credit recognition (ECTS) in any of the European universities that the University and the Master has exchange agreements with. The stay will be in the first semester of the second year. This is an opportunity to obtain a unique international curriculum. Students will receive formal recognition for their academic study period abroad in the transcript of records.


    Option B: International Complement

    At the end of the regular master program, students may opt to spend a placement period of 3-6 months in another European school studying complementary disciplines, such as Marketing, Finance, Management, Information Systems or Accountancy, or just deepen into Economics.

    Having the opportunity to go to another European university within an international program allows the students to complement their training, in addition to having the experience of living in a different country, as well as in a different university environment.

    Students receive formal recognition for their academic study period abroad in the transcript of records and in the degree certificate.
