    The Carlos III-Juan March Institute of Social Sciences (IC3JM) offers a two-year, official Master of Social Sciences, run entirely in English. It corresponds to 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). It is a Master of excellence, interdisciplinary, with a strong emphasis on methodology, and academically demanding.

    The goal of the Master is to train students to do solid and rigorous research in the core topics of the Social Sciences from comparative, historical and quantitative perspectives. The Master offers courses on sociological analysis, social stratification, comparative politics, international relations, economic history, political economy, game theory, statistics and research design.

    The faculty consists of members of the IC3JM, the Department of Social Sciences, and the Departments of Economics and Statistics of the Carlos III University as well as visiting professors (leading scholars who are invited to teach a course in the Master).

    Requirements

    In accordance with art. 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, to be admitted to the Master of Social Sciences will be necessary to hold a Spanish university degree or another issued by an institution of higher education of the European Higher Education Area superior (EEES) empower access to postgraduate studies.

    Priority will be given to graduate students in social studies and legal (political science, sociology, economics, history, law), but the door is left open access to any graduate long as you have the motivation and adequate capacity.

    All students must enroll previous Complement learning in Mathematics and Statistics listed in the program (4 ects). When the degree of access to the master and / or prior training is not required to take such courses, the student must request the validation of such credits by the usual procedure of credit recognition.

    Admission criteria

    Admission to the program will be based on the decision of the academic staff, who will assess the potential of each candidate based on their:

    If the Committee considers it appropriate, a personal or electronic interview may be carried out.

    Language requirements

    You can check the language requirements of generic language required to study a master at UC3M, depending on is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

    Foreign students

    Once admitted to the Master, foreign students with university degree issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EEES, must present, for enrollment, the diploma attesting equivalent training that allows access to postgraduate studies, legalized by diplomatic procedures, or “The Hague Convention Apostille”. More information about Legalization of Documents.

    If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

  • SCHOLARSHIPS

    TWO JUAN MARCH SERVERA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE MASTER IN SOCIAL SCIENCES OF THE CARLOS III-JUAN MARCH INSTITUTE OF THE CARLOS III UNIVERSITY

    The Juan March Servera Chair of the IC3JM (created in the agreement between the Carlos III University of Madrid and the Juan March Foundation) offers two scholarships “Juan March Servera” for the Master in Social Sciences of the Carlos III-Juan March Institute of Social Sciences (IC3JM).

    These are two-year scholarships, with a stipend of 15,000 euros (gross) per year. The second year stipend may be cancelled if the student fails to pass one or more courses during the first year of the Master.

    The deadline for the application process is April 7th, 2017

    Eligible students are those who graduated after January 1st 2014 or who are finishing their degrees during the current academic year (2016/17).

    Complete study aids for the year 2017/2018

    EXTENSION M01-1617-1A (CALL M01-1718)

    For the academic year 2017-18 a call for 3 aids has been made for students who have applied for admission or are admitted to the master's program, with the following endowment:

    • The monthly endowment of scholarships will be an amount of €909 gross. Also, the aid will include amounts to cover tuition fees in the first full-time enrollment.

      Additional information

      • You can register on the Master’s degree program when you have finished the application admission process and you have received your acceptance.
      • When performing the enrollment you can choose between Full-time enrollment or Part-time enrollment.
      • The email address which the University provides to the student upon enrollment will be used principally for communications with said student. For this reason, it is essential that it be actualized and periodically consulted.
      • Failure to make payment shall result in non-admission or termination of enrollment according to that established by the University. In case of annulment of registration because of failure to make payment, Universities can demand payment for previous enrollment in earlier academic years as a previous condition for enrollment.
        Universities shall not issue a diploma or certificate when a student has payments of any kind pending.

      The Academic Committee of the Master complies with the SGIC of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and it is responsible for the quality analysis of the program, it contributes with proposals to improve the program and produces the “Memoria Académica de Titulación”.

      System of complaints and / or suggestions

      Claims, complaints and suggestions received and channeled through the Academic Committee of Quality, so that it is directly informed of all matters related to the quality of qualifications. The seat of that committee are reviewed and processed in accordance with established work schedules and noting in the reports of these committees.

      Furthermore, claims, complaints and suggestions can be made outside the scope of the degree by presenting on paper, through the Registry, and also through the electronic mailboxes (OPINA System) found on the website of the degrees. All questions received, transfer is given to units or services concerned in order to reverse this information to improve the quality offered by the University.

      Also through the University Ombudsman that ensures the protection of the rights, freedoms and interests of all members of the university community, against any violation of the current legislation by the services and bodies of the University.
