This Master’s has a clear professional orientation, offering a specialized and advanced education with a practical outlook in Spanish, European and international intellectual property law. It is the only Master’s specialized in intellectual property and copyright offered by a public Spanish university.
The new information technologies, always linked to intellectual property, have brought about a changing and globalized international environment that is closely related to intellectual property, generating relevant modifications in their legal regime and a thorough revision of traditional business models.
There is great demand for a specific professional education in intellectual property, in both counseling and transaction work and contentious or litigious situations.
It is a branch of the system that constitutes the foundation of creativity and economic, social and cultural development, affects all social spheres, is constantly evolving and demands legal certainty and security.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/21
The Master in Intellectual Property will be taught ON CAMPUS*.
Exceptionally, students must attend in a Synchronous Online Teaching system the sessions that may be determined to ensure the prevention and social distancing measures in classrooms. All students must have the necessary equipment to follow classes remotely (device with internet connection and webcam. See Student’s Guide). Due to the restrictions in the use of computer rooms on Campus it may be necessary to take your own computer equipment for its use in the classroom.
UC3M has a laptop loan program for students who need it.
*Students who cannot attend to on Campus classes, due to difficulties or delays obtaining their visas, border closures, or similar issues, will be able to follow classes in a Synchronous Online Teaching system until they are able to arrive to on Campus classes. - INTERNSHIPS
The practical training of our students is an essential part of their learning program for it implies reviewing, practicing and going deeply into the academic knowledge previously adquired.
This practical training is achieved through two mandatory subjects: "Internship at law firms, companies and institutions" (6 credits), which is carried out on an individual basis, and the Subject "Reports, disputes and litigation" (3 credits), which is carried out in groups. The aim of both subjects is for the student to acquire the skills and responsibilities of someone who works in the field of intellectual and industrial property.
The individual internships are conducted in companies, lawyer’s offices and institutions of the field during the academic year in a compatible schedule with the master’s lectures and have an average duration of three months. However, if the student and the collaborating entity reach an agreement, the internship might be extended for an additional time, through a complementary internship (extracurricular internship).
The quality of the internship program is guaranteed by both the careful selection of the collaborating entities and the personalized follow-up of the internship progress and its final assessment.
