The remnants of the cultural past are so present in today’s world that, without fully understanding them, we would be hard-pressed to comprehend our way of life, our beliefs or our customs. We study that past in historical and cultural processes, in artistic manifestations and in the structure and architecture of cities.

Cultural heritage has generally been studied as historical-artistic patrimony or as an activity of ethnological or folkloric interest. However, it is also worth reassessing its social significance. In this regard, the Master’s in Hispanic Cultural Heritage is geared towards those interested in the research of such subjects by means of comprehensive cultural studies.

The Master’s includes required courses such as introduction to research and research methods, and optional courses in which the legacy of different historical periods is studied, along with art, urban communities and landscapes. It is also possible to direct the interest of public administrators in the treatment, use and dissemination of cultural heritage so that they are prepared to confront the complex issue it presents.

This Official Master’s in Hispanic Cultural Heritage seeks to study these historical materials of different types and origins in a new way, from a point of view that allows them to be considered as a whole.

      Application

The request is made electronically through our application. Before starting the admission process it is important to consult the supporting information that we offer below:

      Requirements

Graduates in Humanities, Languages, History, Geography, Art but also Law, Political and Social Sciences, Agricultural engineering or similar are eligible for the course. However, students with different degrees may also apply. In cases where it is considered that the connection between previous qualifications and this master's degree is more tenuous, a complementary educational module consisting of eighteen credits has been planned.

The thirty credits for educational complements will be undertaken by students with qualifications in a discipline which did not involve studies in Art (six credits) History (six credits), Geography (six credits), Spanish Language (six credits) and Literature (six credits). If they have studied any of these subjects rather than others, students may request validation of their studies in accordance with the current regulations of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

      Admission criteria

The admission criteria will be evaluated according to the following table:

      ADMISSION CRITERIA WEIGHTING
      Academic record 50 points
Knowledge level of other languages 10 points
      Professional experience 5 points
Qualificaitons obtained in essential subjects for studying master's degree 15 points
Motivation, interest and letters of recommendation 20 points

Should there be insufficient places to meet the demand, candidates may be interviewed in person, always taking into account in the first instance those with the best academic record.  In these interviews students will be assessed on the basis of their studies and qualifications, their interest in the course and their previous experience.
