XXXII EDITION
The University Master's Degree in European Union Law is a specialized LLM of excellence recognized during all these last 30 editions (Ranking El Mundo: Mejores Másteres 2019). It is focused on a bilingual education (English/Spanish), and promotes a practical approach (moot courts) together with the acquisition of competitive qualifications of transnational law (work in international teams, digital legal environment and leadership).
A mandatory period of curricular practices, supervised by the most prestigious professionals in this area of specialization, guarantees the acquisition of the most up-to-date skills in this field (Academic Council).
The Double Master together with the Master of Access to Law, the Double Master with the WCL of the American University - LLM in International Legal Practice /LLM in EU Law - and the complement of specialization with the Law and Commercial Arbitration Program, Financial Market Law and Intellectual Property Law of the University of Zurich, prepare all the most for the legal practice in a globalized environment.
The high qualification of the knowledge gained throught the Master is also supported with various institutional distinctions such as the grants of the Rafael del Pino Foundation, the scholarships and the chair of Excellence of the Mutualidad de la Abogacía Foundation, or the Jones Day Award.

The Study Program is composed of 7 compulsory courses and 12 credits of optional subjects following personal choice, which deepen and apply skills, achieved in common subjects. Students must select 4 optional courses of 3 ECTS credits each. This does not meaning a specialization in specific fields but a more in depth assimilation of specific subjects only.
Further 30 ECTS credits are intended to be taken in external tutored internships in order to achieve skills and knowledge required by the legal practice and companies advising as a European Union Law Attorney.
The Programme ends with a “Due diligence” evaluation consisting of 6 ECTS credits. Students shall apply their skills to solve a complex case composed by an international attorney and consisting of trans-national matters, requiring mandatory application of EU Legal framework. The preparation of the case shall be in teams whereas the defense in front of the examining board shall be individual.

Requirements
The main requirements for access to the University Master's degree in European Union law are to have obtained, or to be in the process of obtaining, prior to commencement of classes, a degree in law or any other degree attesting to their having acquired the skills and competence established in article 3 of the Regulation on the Law 34/2006 of 30 October on access to the professions of lawyer and court procedural representative, approved by RD 775/2011 of 3 June.
Admission criteria
Candidates will be selected by the Master's Degree Management Committee on the basis of the following criteria:
ADMISSION CRITERIA WEIGHTING Academic record (examination grades and if appropriate degree final dissertation) up to 3.5 points Compulsory language accreditation up to 2.5 points Extensive periods (more than three consecutive months) at foreign universities undertaking studies leading to a degree in law and/or an extended period (more than three consecutive months) with an external work placement in law organisations or institutions up to 1.5 points Participation in competitions and international competitive events with a legal content 0.5 points Participation in courses run by internationally renowned legal institutions or centres concerned with knowledge of transnational legal practice up to 0.5 points Testimonials and references up to 0.5 points Language requirements

students with foreign university degrees
Once admitted to the Master’s, students with university degrees issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EHEA, must provide, for enrolment, the diploma, legalized by diplomatic procedures or by means of The Hague Apostille. They must also submit the transcript of records, with the grade point average, duly legalized.

- When performing the enrolment you can choose between Full-time enrolment or Part-time enrolment.
- The email address provided upon enrolment will be used for formal communications; students are therefore kindly requested to check their mail regularly.
- Pursuant to the regulations of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, a student failing to pay any part of the fees will not be admitted and the enrolment process will be terminated. In cases of cancellation of enrolment due to non-payment, the University may demand the payment of the pending amounts for enrolment in previous academic courses as a prior condition of enrolment.
No diploma or certificate will be issued if a student has any outstanding payments.

Rafael del Pino Foundation offers a scholarship to the best student of the XXVIII Edition of the LLM in EU Law to enrol at the London School of Economics in the Program: “Efficient regulation and markets: An Excellence Programme at LSE”.
Jones Day Award - Professor Rafael Illescas
Jones Day Law Firm organizes, in collaboration with MUDUE, a competition law award. The best 10 files of the master will have the opportunity to be presented.
The participants will prepare a SoD ("Statement of Defense") with the defense strategy they consider most appropriate. In a second phase, they will defend their brief and strategy before an exceptional court presided over by Rafael Illescas.
The winner will enjoy a financial scholarship and the opportunity to do an internship at the Jones Day law firm in Madrid.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/21
The Master in European Union Law will be taught ON CAMPUS.
Exceptionally, students must attend in a Synchronous Online Teaching system the sessions that may be determined to ensure the prevention and social distancing measures in classrooms. All students must have the necessary equipment to follow classes remotely (device with internet connection and webcam. See Student’s Guide). Due to the restrictions in the use of computer rooms on Campus it may be necessary to take your own computer equipment for its use in the classroom.
UC3M has a laptop loan program for students who need it. - CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Description of the stage
Having successfully completed the first stage of the Master's degree in EU law, students may acquire practical knowledge to complement their theoretical training.
The location for these "stages" will depend on their:
- Career path prior to and during the first stage of the Master's degree
- The organisational availability of the collaborating bodies
In this regard work experience in legal firms or companies or with public authorities is in any case conditioned on acceptance by the course organisers of the work experience locations.
Duration
A period of 3 to 6 months according to the needs of the collaborating bodies. This period may be extended if the interested parties mutually agree.
Collaborating universities
There is a possibility of obtaining a Master’s degree in international legal practice at WCL of the AU in USA jointly with the Master's degree in EU law at the UC3M («Double Degree Program»).

The UC3M offers students the possibility of jointly studying the Master in Legal Practice, which will help them to prepare for the professional aptitude assessment examinations in order to exercise the profession of law, and the Master in European Union Law, thus obtaining a high level of specialization which will place them in an excellent position for entering the job market.
Master in Legal Practice
In its current guise, the Master’s degree in access to Law Practice has developed in response to the requirements of the Law 34/2006 of 30 October regulating access to the professions of lawyer and court procedural representative (procurador), and it also provides an opportunity to improve training in legal practices for law graduates thus facilitating access to the job market.
Master in European Union Law
Furthermore, the Master's Degree in European Union Law at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, will prepare you for work as a specialist lawyer able to assess and resolve problems typical of international legal traffic and trade.
The experience accumulated over 31 years has resulted in an extremely competitive program taught by renowned professionals with a practical approach to the customary techniques employed by legal practitioners in a globalised economic environment.
One of the main goals of the course tis to achieve linguistic fluency of students so that they are able to draw up legal documents or correctly advise their clients in both English and Spanish, encouraging team work and a capacity for professional leadership accustoming students to a multicultural environment.

STRUCTURE
The syllabus for this Double Master's degree is structured around three teaching terms and a compulsory work placement for which students will obtain 75 ECTS corresponding to the University master's degree in Access to Law Practice and 49 ECTS of the University Master's degree in European Union Law.
The 124 total credits on the dual syllabus are broken down as follows:
- In the first term, compulsory subjects on the Law Practice course corresponding to the main part of this degree (28 ECTS in total, in the mornings) and a first part of the European Union Law specialization (17 ECTS in total, in afternoon classes).
- In the second term some compulsory subjects will be studied, completing the technical training in Legal Practices and Professional Activity of the Master's degree in European Union Law (11 ECTS in total in morning classes) and a second phase of the specialization (26 ECTS in total taught in the afternoons).
- The third and final term is dedicated to the guided external work placement designed for students to acquire the skills and abilities needed to exercise the profession of law and to completing the two final dissertations for the master's degrees.
56 of your ECTS credits will be recognized and at the end of the course you will have obtained two official Master's qualifications.

To be admitted to the Doble Master Degree you have to be admitted by the Academic Committee of the Master in Legal Practice. If your application for admission to the Double Master Degree is Not Accepted, you can still apply for admission to the Master in European Union Law if you want.
On the other hand, the admission to the Master in European Union Law doesn’t imply the admission to the Master in Legal Practice.
In any case, the resolution will be communicated to the applicant.

2 Admission and registration on the double master's degree course will provide exemption from ECTS credits which will be validated according to the curriculum (see Program). Having obtained credits from both syllabuses, together with validation of 56 ECTS you will be able to obtain two official master's qualifications in little more than a year and a half. This exemption from payment of fees for validating ECTS credits shall only be applicable to students registered on the Dual Master's degree from the start.

☛ Once you submit the application for admission, you will have to wait for the official acceptance in the Master program, before starting the enrollment process.
☛ You must perform 2 enrollments, one for each degree, within the deadlines published for that purpose on the website.
☛ Registration implies effective entry to the master's course as a student.
☛ The availability of optional subjects shall be conditioned on a minimum registration of 25 students for each subject.
Additional information
- You may enrol on the master’s degree after completing the admission process and receiving formal confirmation of your acceptance.
- When performing the enrolment you can choose between Full-time enrolment or Part-time enrolment.
- The email address provided upon enrolment will be used for formal communications; students are therefore kindly requested to check their mail regularly.
- Pursuant to the regulations of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, a student failing to pay any part of the fees will not be admitted and the enrolment process will be terminated. In cases of cancellation of enrolment due to non-payment, the University may demand the payment of the pending amounts for enrolment in previous academic courses as a prior condition of enrolment.
No diploma or certificate will be issued if a student has any outstanding payments.
