Ph.D. Research Skills Training

Ph.D. programs at uc3m under the RD 99/2011 Rules and Regulations for Doctoral Studies in Spain may require the completion of 6 credits of research skills training during your doctoral training period.

Research Skills training options

Options Description Please note Enrollment Fees
A Master's degree subjects at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
  • The master's degree must be different from the one you took prior to your Ph.D.
Fees: € 45,02 per credit.

This option must be previously approved by the Academic Committee of your Ph.D. program.

Submit first your enrollment application to gestiondoctorado@uc3m.es, including a brief endorsement report by your tutor/advisor, and stating the number of credits for recognition:

   -If the subject is part of an official Master's program, the total credits will be the same as for Master's students. 
   -For subjects of other Master's programs ( School of Continuing Education at uc3m), your proposal must include your tutor/advisor's credit estimate.

The Academic Committee will evaluate your proposal. If approved, you will be contacted to carry out your enrollment on the subject and the fees payment.
B Courses not hosted by the Doctoral School at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
  • For this option, you may choose any cross-curricular course (common to all Ph.D. areas).
  • Some examples of suitable training are summer school courses at other universities, courses taken during international research visits, courses hosted by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid outside the Doctoral School, etc.
Fees: €11,25 per credit.
These courses must be previously approved by your tutor/advisor, but no authorization document is required until completion.

Once you have completed the course, please submit your application for credits attaching proof of completion (certificate, etc.) to gestiondoctorado@uc3m.es. Your application must include your tutor or advisor's endorsement and credits proposal. The Academic Committee of your program will evaluate your application. If approved, you will be contacted in order to process the fees payment.
C Online courses
  • For this option, you may choose any cross-curricular course (common to all Ph.D. areas).
Fees: €11,25 per credit.
These courses must be previously approved by your tutor/advisor, but no authorizaton document is required until completion.

Please note: Certificates awarded by some online platforms do not state the student's identity. Make sure your identity is verified (check with your tutor/advisor if necessary) in order to have your application submitted to the Academic Committee.

Once you have completed the course, submit your application for credits to gestiondoctorado@uc3m.es, attaching proof of completion. Your application must include your tutor/advisor's endorsement and credit estimation, as well as the validation criteria for any assignment or coursework you may have done.

The Academic Committee will evaluate your application. If approved, you will be contacted in order to fulfill the fees payment. 
D Courses hosted by the Doctoral School at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid Research skills courses at the Doctoral School Fees: €45,02 per credit (when applicable)
These courses and seminars must be previously approved by your tutor/advisor.
