Tourism is one of the main sectors of economic activity in Spain. It is also the sector with the best prospects for future development, and as such, tourism management offers numerous opportunities for professional development.
Despite the importance that “sun and sand” tourism holds, the cultural and natural segment is growing constantly, benefiting from the wealth and diversity of Spain’s natural and cultural assets.
In this context, the Master’s in Tourism Management aims to educate professionals and researchers who are able to tackle the difficult challenge of developing and managing tourist activities and resources, especially those based on nature and historical heritage.

BLENDED OPTION
This master's degree is offered in two modalities: 100% face-to-face and blended. They are both independent.
The development of the blended learning modality is carried out through the virtual platform Aula Global and the collaborative applications integrated in it (Blackboard, Wooclap, Kaltura, among others). Through this platform the didactic materials are provided and the students hand in the assigned tasks. Communication between students and the teaching team is direct and bidirectional. Student participation is encouraged through questions, suggestions and proposals in collaborative discussion forums, chats, etc.
The non-face-to-face classes given in the master's program are broadcast live so that students can follow them and participate remotely and, in certain cases, they are recorded so that students can access the content at any time of the day from the Aula Global.
During the entire period of non-classroom training, students will be supported and tutored:
- Tutoring: teachers will provide support and attention through online tutorials, discussion forums, etc., monitoring students' progress.
- System administration: doubts related to the material content will be solved during the course.
Master's Development
SEMESTER 1 | SEMESTER 2 Combines online and face-to-face activities during the entire course. Online synchronous classes The blended classroom-hybrid mode will consist of a combination of face-to-face and online teaching during both semesters of the course, with the theoretical classes being taught online synchronously for blended students and the practical classes in face-to-face mode for all students, which would mean a 50% attendance rate for the entire degree.
From a temporal point of view, the online training activities will be combined in a regular way from the beginning and during the whole period of the corresponding four-month period.
Admission and Enrollment
The admission and enrollment processes will be the same for both modalities.
Please check the corresponding sections on the Master's website.

- MATERIAL RESOURCES
Specific information systems for blended-learning modality
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid uses the BlackBoard Collaborate system so that students can follow the online sessions synchronously, at the same time that some of their classmates do so in the classroom.
TECHNOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS
In order to use this tool, the student must have:
- A device with internet connection
- A device with a microphone and, optionally, a camera to actively participate in the session.
BlackBoard Collaborate is a tool that works on a large number of web browsers that only supports the two most recent versions of the stable channel of the following browsers: Chrome (recommended on Windows, Linux and Mac, and for Android mobile devices), Firefox, Safari (recommended for iOS and iPadOS mobile devices).
In order to use this system, the student needs to have the following technical equipment:
- Web browser, both from your computer and from your cell phone. It is not necessary to install any additional application. Compatible browsers are (remember that they have to be updated): *Chrome or *Safari 11
- Internet connection: preferably by network cable, if not wifi; as a last option use mobile data, since it is a videoconferencing system that consumes a lot of data. Traffic increases the more videos and applications are shared during the session.
- Minimum connection: (48 kbps audio + 360 kps x each video + 500 kbps content) A 3G connection might be sufficient, but as it depends on the number of people connected, it is better, as mentioned above, to connect from a network that guarantees at least 8Mbps.
- You can check your connection quality for example through this speed test page.
ACCESS TO BLACKBOARD SESSIONS
The student will be able to access sessions created in BlackBoard Collaborate through two options:
- The Aula Global platform with the student's credentials and once inside go to the course whose activities they wish to view.
- On this page the student will be able to access the list of course activities and will be able to see the active sessions, future sessions and recorded sessions to be able to view them in case they are not synchronous.
- Through direct access via URL that the manager or the teacher will send to the students. In this case they will access directly to the link provided.
Active Learning
The applications integrated in Aula Global are:
BlackBoard Collaborate
This system allows the student to follow the synchronous sessions at the same time as the rest of his classmates do in the classroom, and to actively participate in them, or to access them later when the student has different schedules. These classes will be recorded with the authorization of the students present in the classroom.
In order to encourage the active participation of students and faculty, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has implemented the following tools for the dynamization of classes:
Wooclap
This tool allows students to participate in classes through quick surveys that can be answered from their mobile device.
For the professor, this is a way to check if the content is really being understood, since the results of the surveys are obtained in real time. There are a multitude of possibilities: polls, questionnaires, brainstorms or image searches are some of the options.
Kaltura
This is a dynamization system that allows both professors and students to incorporate multimedia content into their courses. In this way, professors are able to create all kinds of audio and video content to add to their classes. Students also have their own space where they can upload multimedia content to incorporate into their deliveries.
Training for students in the use of teaching tools
At the beginning of the academic year, the University offers incoming students training sessions on the use of distance learning applications, coordinated by the UC3M Vice-Rector's Office for Strategy and Digital Education. You will receive specific instructions and the schedule of these training sessions from your Master's manager.
During these days the student receives training sessions on Aula Global (Moodle):
- How to have access to the contents and tasks that each teacher uploads to the application
- Use of forums for active participation
- Access to questionnaires and grades
