The aim of the master’s programme is to provide a high-level multinational research-oriented education in fusion-related engineering physics, in close relation to the research activities of the partners, and with a well-integrated language and cultural experience. The combined and harmonized teaching and research of the 7 institutions involved, offers a great variety of competences in the field of fusion science and engineering physics.
The joint European master’s programme offers a genuine European opportunity for master level studies in a field which is of crucial importance to contribute to the solution of the ever more urgent and vital problem of world energy supply. The partners have a long relationship in the framework of the coordinated EURATOM research programme on nuclear fusion.
Student mobility is an inherent part of the programme structure and philosophy combining the mandatory stay of the student at two universities in two countries (first and second semester in one university, third and fourth semester in a second institution, including the realization of the master thesis).

- ADMISSION
- ADMISSION
Application
The application for admission must be sent (on-line) to the coordinating institution (Université de Aix-Marseille).
Access detailed information about admission conditions and application.
Language Requirements
Since English is the official language of the programme, a high level of written and spoken English is required. This knowledge can be accredited with the results of an official C1 English diploma (CEFR) including evaluation of the 4 areas: listening, reading, speaking and writing.
As a general rule, the following minimum scores are required:
- TOEFL (iBT): 95-120
- IELTS: 7.0 - 8.0
- Cambridge ESOL: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
- Common European Framework (Languages): Level C1
The language requirements will not be required to those students whose mother tongue is English or students who have completed their undergraduate studies in English, upon presentation of the relevant documentation.
- ENROLLMENT
TUITION fees
The tuition fees are stipulated by the program and must be paid to the coordinating institution (Université de Aix-Marseille).
Students awarded with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship are exempted.
The coordinating university will pay to the partner universities the local tuition fees for the students pursuing the academic year at the corresponding university. In the case of Universidad Carlos III, the local tuition fees are:
60 ECTS in the first academic year:
- EU students: €2,701.2 (€45.02/ECTS credit)
- Non EU students: €5,044.2 (€84.07/ECTS credit)
NOTE: the indicated public prices do not include in any case, neither the ECTS corresponding to the Formative Complements that the student must take (only master's degrees with previous Formative Complements), nor the the cost of issuing the master’s degree certificate.
IMPORTANT
All the students have to enroll in the Coordinating University (Université de Aix-Marseille):
The students following the program in Universidad Carlos III must also be enrolled in Universidad Carlos III.
Additional information (Uc3m)
- You can register on the Master’s degree program when you have finished the application admission process and you have received your acceptance.
- When performing the enrollment you can choose between Full-time enrolment or Part-time enrolment.
- The email address which the University provides to the student upon enrollment will be used principally for communications with said student. For this reason, it is essential that it be actualized and periodically consulted.
- Failure to make payment shall result in non-admission or termination of enrollment according to that established by the University. In case of annulment of registration because of failure to make payment, Universities can demand payment for previous enrollment in earlier academic years as a previous condition for enrollment.
Universities shall not issue a diploma or certificate when a student has payments of any kind pending.
- ADMISSION
- SCHOLARSHIPS
Furthermore, the Erasmus Mundus Program offers every year a number of scholarships for EU and non-EU students to follow the master.

- RESEARCH
Fusion science and engineering has its natural area of application in the actually existing fusion devices in the world (Europe, Japan, United States, etc), which demand a considerable number of experts in the field.
This is the case, for example, of the CIEMAT (“Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas”), in Madrid, where there is a magnetic confinement fusion device, stellarator type (the TJ-II stellarator), and, in particular, of the international project ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) in Cadarache (France), actually under construction, which will require in the coming years a large number of physicists and engineers with a solid background in the field of plasma physics and nuclear fusion.

- JOB MARKET
Job Market
University's Foundation (Fundación Universidad Carlos III) holds a careers service (UC3M Career Service) which orientates, informs and helps graduates to get through the labour market.
Each year a research is carried out in order to analyze work placements from previous year graduates.
