The Master in Legal Practice organized by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid aims to ensure that graduates of the course receive the appropriate training which will enable them to successfully complete the assessment examinations for practicing the profession of law, following an external work placement carried out with a number of top law firms. To this end, the Master is oriented to matters related to legal advisory services to business, matching profile with professional practice offices that sponsor it.

The work developed by the University Carlos III of Madrid for the organization of the Master has counted from its beginnings with the collaboration of the most prestigious law firms whose senior lawyers teach and act as tutors to students during  their work placement as part of the master's course supported by the Agreement entered into for this purpose with the Madrid Bar Association.

Despite the fact that the Master's degree places considerable emphasis on subjects relating to legal advisory services to business, the number and varied nature of the law firms collaborating on the course facilitates the possibility of  work placement in other areas.

    NOTICE

Following the reforms introduced by Law 15/2021, of October 23, amending Law 34/2006, of October 30, on access to the professions of Lawyer and Attorney of the Courts and limitations on public prices of the qualifying Masters, approved by the General Conference on University Policy, in order to maintain the quality of the teachings, a new configuration of the optional subjects included in the curriculum of the Masters has been agreed, so that:

    i) Starting with the edition of the Master's Degree that will begin in September 2022, only 7/8 elective subjects will be offered, aimed at improving the training of students in corporate legal advice, in which the law firms that maintain a special collaboration and contribute to the financing of their own program of study aids work as a priority.

ii) Starting with the edition of the Master's Degree that will begin in March 2023, elective subjects will be taken exclusively in the specialization Master's Degree in which each student is enrolled.

  • CURRICULUM
    • SEPTEMBER EDITION

The syllabus is based on a compulsory module with a total of 39 credits. 15 optional credits are added to this module, enabling students to gain an in-depth knowledge of different aspects of law. The syllabus also includes 30 credits obtained through external work practice under the guidance of tutors designed to ensure that students achieve the skills and abilities needed to exercise the profession of law. Finally, students will be required to carry out a final dissertation which is equal to 6 ECTS.

The Master is face-to-face: it requires attendance to all classes (including mandatory supplementary activities) and the absence of more than 10 percent of the sessions per subject will have an impact on grades.

Signatures control will be carried out to verify the compliance of the attendance to the classes. The falsification of the signature, the improper signature or any similar incident will suppose at least, the loss of the totality of the continuous evaluation of the subject in question, as much in the ordinary announcement, as in the extraordinary one, and according to the gravity of the facts, the loss of the right to take the exam (in any of its calls) for the corresponding subject and, in accordance with the current academic discipline regulations, the expulsion of the Master.

Note: In view of the first transitory provision of Law 15/2021, of October 23, amending Law 34/2006, of October 30, on access to the professions of Lawyer and Court Attorney, it is not currently possible to guarantee the examination model that will be used once the training courses of the master's degree have been completed from the 18th edition onwards.

    • ADMISSION

      Application

The request is made electronically through our application. Before starting the admission process it is important to consult the supporting information that we offer below:

From the 22/23 academic year onwards, only one admission period per year is established for the total number of places in the two editions (September and March).

      Requirements

The basic requirement for admission to the Master is, in accordance with Order PRA / 696/2017, of July 25, be in possession of a Bachelor of Laws degree, Graduate in Law or another university equivalent degree that meets the requirements established in article 3 of the Regulation of the Law 34/2006, of October 30, on the access to the professions of Lawyer and Attorney of the Courts, approved by Royal Decree 775/2011, of June 3, or, in its case, of substitute certifications.

Applicants with qualifications obtained abroad must be in possession of the credential accrediting their homologation. Applicants must meet this requirement prior to admission to the specialized training course for access to the profession of Lawyer in accordance with Royal Decree 775/2011, of June 3, which approves the Regulation of Law 34 / 2006, of October 30, on access to the professions of Lawyer and Attorney of the Courts.

Due to the professional nature of the master the program requires that the candidate must provide the supporting documentation of the approved qualification of the foreign degree in Law by the Ministry of Education of Spain at the time of applying for admission. More information about make equivalent.

       IMPORTANT

In any case, the date of completion of the Degree in Law or the homologation of the degree obtained abroad, which is stated in the supporting document provided, must be prior to the start date of the master's degree classes (September editions, individual and double master's degree).

Students of Double Master's Degrees combined with the Legal Practice March edition, must provide proof of completion of previous studies in Law:

      • Before November 30 if the Bachelor's Degree in Law is a prerequisite for access to the Master's Degree with which Legal Practice is combined
        • Double Master's Degree in International Advocacy and Legal Practice
        • Double Master's Degree in Telecommunications & I.T. Law and Legal Practice
        • Double Master's Degree in Law of the Regulated Sectors and Legal Practice
        • Double Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Public Law and Legal Practice
        • Double Master's Degree in Intellectual Property and Legal Practice
      • Before February 28th of the year in which the Master's program begins if the Bachelor's Degree in Law is not a prerequisite for access to the Master's program with which it is combined.
        • Double Master's Degree in Labor Legal Consulting and Legal Practice
        • Double Master's Degree in Taxation and Legal Practice

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the withdrawal from the Master's program of those who have been admitted without having accredited the qualifications as indicated.

On this website of the Ministerio de Universidades (only in Spanish) you will find all the relevant information.

This is a procedure that is completely alien to the Master's Degree in Legal Practice, which may force students to study at a University in addition to those they already possess.
