    The Official Master’s in Contemporary Spanish Language and Literature introduces the study and analysis of the most important linguistic and literary phenomena in the Spanish-speaking world over the last 20 years. Its goal is to delve into the knowledge of literature written in Spanish—in Spain and the Americas—from 1996 to the present and reflect upon the rules and usage of Spanish in current times.

    The Master’s seeks to educate individuals interested in contemporary Spanish language, literature and culture and who intend to engage in teaching and other professional activities related to this area.

    The courses are designed according to thematic criteria, so topics related to contemporary Spanish culture are approached from an interdisciplinary perspective. They are addressed with a transversal focus so that the study of the different areas is carried out from distinct outlooks and views.

    Course classroom sessions will be complemented with a practical activity undertaken by the students, based on the reading of a large corpus of contemporary literary and linguistic texts written in Spanish, study of a support and reference bibliography, writing exercises and essays, and preparation of oral presentations given to fellow students and professors.

    Most of the teaching staff of the University Master's Degree in Contemporary Spanish Language and Literature are members of the Humanities Department: Philosophy, Language and Literature at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Teachers from other departments will contribute to the course, teaching subjects from the disciplines proper to their speciality, as well as renowned specialists from other universities and from the professional field who participate in specific sessions.

      The request is made electronically through our application. Before starting the admission process it is important to consult the supporting information that we offer below:

      Requirements

      Admission to the Master's degree will be in accordance with the terms established by Royal Decree 1393 /2007 amended by Royal Decree 861/2010. Furthermore, and given the Master's profile, applicants will be required to have a correct knowledge of Spanish. Those who do not have Spanish language as their mother tongue will be required to attest to a sufficient level through an official qualification (Advanced or Higher level Diploma in Spanish (DELE), between B2 and C1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages –MCER-) or either to take a test to assess language levels indicated by the Master's course Academic Committee. 

       

      Admission criteria

      Candidate selection will be done on the basis of the following criteria:

      Academic record 2 points
      Qualificaitons obtained in essential subjects for studying master's degree 2 points
      Personal interview* 2 points
      Professional experience in fields relating to the master's subjects 2 points
      Letter of recommendation 1 point
      Languages with importance in terms of bibliography - Level B1** 1 point

      *In order to determine students' motivation and interest in Spanish language and literature, in addition to the ability to communicate and work in a team.

      **English German or French (level to be attested by an official certification) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

      Language requirements

      Check the general language requirements required to study a Master’s at UC3M, depending on whether it is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

      students with foreign university degrees

      Once admitted to the Master’s, students with university degrees issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EHEA, must provide, for enrolment, the diploma, legalized by diplomatic procedures or by means of The Hague Apostille. They must also submit the transcript of records, with the grade point average, duly legalized.

      If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

      • Reservation fee: €450 (It will be paid once the student receives notification of admission to the master’s, and deducted from the first tuition payment)

      60 ECTS in the first academic year:

      • EU students: €2,701.2 (€45.02/ECTS credit)
      • Non EU students: €5,044.2 (€84.07/ECTS credit)

      * Pending approval by the Regional Government of Madrid for 2020/2021

      Additional information

      • You may enrol on the master’s degree after completing the admission process and receiving formal confirmation of your acceptance.
      • When performing the enrolment you can choose between Full-time enrolment or Part-time enrolment.
      • The email address provided upon enrolment will be used for formal communications; students are therefore kindly requested to check their mail regularly.
      • Pursuant to the regulations of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, a student failing to pay any part of the fees will not be admitted and the enrolment process will be terminated. In cases of cancellation of enrolment due to non-payment, the University may demand the payment of the pending amounts for enrolment in previous academic courses as a prior condition of enrolment.
        No diploma or certificate will be issued if a student has any outstanding payments.
