IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22

This master program is planned to be taught On- Campus / Blended learning, in the academic year 2021/22.
In the event that capacity limitations persist in the classrooms at the beginning of the course due to risks derived from the COVID-19 pandemic, students must follow the sessions that are determined synchronously online. The master program will set the most appropriate shift system, always ensuring the maximum presence of all its students.
It is recommended to have a portable computer equipment for the follow-up of those training activities that are determined. This equipment is essential for carrying out practices in virtual environments in university classrooms that do not have computer stations.
International students who prove difficulties or delays in obtaining their visas and entering Spain, may request remote teaching until they may join the classes on-campus.

Master Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law (formerly Master in Criminal Justiceis a LLM that provides with profound knowledge of Criminal Substantive Law and Criminal Procedure Law, paying special attention to recent criminal phenomenon, such as corruption, organised crime, high-tech crimes, white-collar crimes or restorative justice, as well as to expansion of abilities concerned the accusation instruments in these types of criminality, taking as starting point the principles of Rule of Law of social and democratic state.

The Master is divided into two semesters with the possibility to define the area of specialization in the second one by choosing up to four subject from a variety of proposed optional ones. The studies also include elaboration of master’s thesis (12 ECTS) and its defence at the end of the course in front of tribunal of experts.

There is the additional possibility of carrying out, voluntarily, extra-curricular professional internships in Institutions, Courts and Law Firms of recognised prestige during the academic year.

The faculty consists of professors and researchers of the UC3M, majority PhD, as well as of associate professors (mainly judges and lawyers) and professors of recognised standing from other universities.

The Master's degree in Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law also allows access to the PhD program as long as the cross-cutting research activities indicated by the Doctoral School are carried out.

      Introduction

Master in Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law (formerly Master in Criminal Justice is a LLM that provides with profound knowledge of Criminal Substantive Law and Criminal Procedure Law, paying special attention to recent criminal phenomenon, such as corruption, organised crime, high-tech crimes, white-collar crimes or restorative justice, as well as to expansion of abilities concerned the accusation instruments in these types of criminality, taking as starting point the principles of Rule of Law of social and democratic state.

Blended learning of Master consists of:

      • 9 months of on-line studies
      • Master’s Thesis
      • Two weeks of in-person classes at the University at the end of the course where exams and conferences take place

This type of learning gives an opportunity to study for those students that due to different reasons are not able to choose on-campus modality of the studies. It allows to pass the same studies on-line with only 2 weeks of classes in-person (the detailed schedule of the course will be briefly available in the part “Practical Information”). If you take the master's degree in the part-time modality, in the same academic year you must take the online part and attend the on-campus part of the corresponding subjects.

Blended learning consist of studying of materials prepared by the professors of the Master in Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law, follow-up of synchronous classes, obligatory participation in the on-line tasks (such as forums supervised by the professor of each subject, delivery of research papers, practical tasks, etc.).

Equally to on-campus modality of studies, Academic Master in Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law consists of:

      • Obligatory subjects (36 ECTS)
      • Optional subjects (12 ECTS)
      • Master’s Thesis (12 ECTS)

Each subject has two parts: on-line and in-person classes at the end of the course.

The evaluation of each subject includes all mentioned tasks and obligatory participation in in-person classes. Absence in in-person phase of the studies prevents from obtaining the LLM title.

The Master's degree in Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law also allows access to the PhD program as long as the cross-cutting research activities indicated by the Doctoral School are carried out.

The Master is divided into two semesters with the possibility to define the area of specialization in the second one by choosing up to four subject from a variety of proposed optional ones.

It is addressed to graduates to bachelors of Spanish official education or equivalent foreign student with a preference of admission of Bachelors in Law.
