UC3M welcomes its new international students
8/31/23
The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is holding its Welcome Days for international students on the 31st of August and 1st of September. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the general functioning of the University and contact their buddies, UC3M students who will help answer their questions and accompany them during their first days at the University.
Welcome Event
The first part of the Carlos III International School (C3IS) Welcome Event will be held on Thursday 31st August, in the Leganés Campus Auditorium, with the aim of welcoming the 1,493 international students from, among others, the United States, France, Italy and Germany. The event, in which students from the Free Movers – undergraduate and postgraduate – and Study Abroad programmes will participate, will be attended by the Director of the Carlos III International School, Álvaro Escribano, and other representatives of the C3IS and the Embassy of the United States of America in Spain.
The second part of the Welcome Event will take place on Friday 1st September in the Getafe Campus Graduate Hall, where students from the International Foundation Programme and the Gap Year programme will be welcomed.
Welcome Day
On Friday 1st September the Welcome Day will also be held to welcome the 1,420 students participating in the Erasmus+ Undergraduate, E+ ICM (KA171), E+ Master, Non-European Mobility, International Double Degrees and the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) network mobility exchange programmes this semester. This international student body comes from countries such as the United States (233), Italy (167), France (129), Germany (111), the Netherlands (95), Canada (89), the United Kingdom (62), Poland (50), Argentina (47), Turkey (15) or Iceland (16). Out of a total of 1,420 registered students, 818 are female and 602 are male. In addition, 114 students from other Spanish universities who are completing studies within the framework of the SICUE (Exchange Programme between Spanish Universities) programme will be welcomed.
The welcome event, which will also be held in the Leganés Campus Auditorium, will be attended by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation, Carolina Marugán. The Directors of the School of Engineering, the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities, Communication and Documentation and the International Relations Service will also be present, as well as representatives of the international student associations BEST Madrid Carlos III (Board of European Students of Technology) and ESN (Erasmus Student Network).
Both the Welcome Event and the Welcome Day will put on an artistic musical performance, a breakfast and several meetings so that international students can get to know the university services, the Leganés Campus sports centre and the UC3M students who are voluntarily participating in the Buddy Programme.
Commitment to internationalisation
UC3M is one of the Spanish universities with the greatest choice of English and bilingual (38) bachelor's degrees, which represent almost 70% of its selection. 51% of its graduates have participated in mobility programmes and the University has agreements so that students do not have to pay fees at the host universities, which is especially significant for institutions in countries such as the US and the United Kingdom.
In the 2022/23 academic year, some 2,000 UC3M students completed studies abroad. In addition, the University's students have the opportunity to study in a very cosmopolitan and international environment, given that in the last year almost 4,000 students from other countries visited UC3M as part of various academic programmes.
UC3M also offers the opportunity to study international double degrees with prestigious universities, such as the American University Washington College of Law in the US, the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht in Germany or the ESCP Business School in Paris and the Université Paris Dauphine, both in France.
