2015-2016 Thesis Talk - RESEARCH SKILLS PILOT WORKSHOP

THESIS TALK | PILOT EDITION

Sesión de Presentación de ponentes

Our Lecture Hall in Leganés was the scene of the 2015-2016 Thesis Talk final session on October 3. This research skills training workshop, hosted by UC3M’s Doctoral School, follows the guidelines of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) concept. Originated by the University of Queensland in 2008 and replicated by numerous institutions worldwide, it encourages participants to pitch their research projects in a three-minute presentation addressed to a non-specialized audience. UC3M contributed to this project with an additional training workshop aimed to improve our doctoral students’ skills in scientific dissemination, emphasizing aspects such as ability to synthesize, clarity of speech, non-verbal communication, and time management .
All presentations, both in English and Spanish, were evaluated by an academic jury.

Marcos Jiménez Amores, doctoral candidate in Material Science and Engineering, was awarded the Thesis Talk pilot edition’s First Prize for his presentation Micromechanical characterization of polycrystalline NI-based superalloys. Emanuel Mompó’s pitch based on his research project Modelos de oscilaciones caóticas en superredes semiconductoras a temperatura ambiente in Mathematical Engineering was deserving of the Jury Mention.

We sincerely congratulate all participants and look forward to hosting further Thesis Talk sessions on an annual basis.
