Integration with the surrounding community

The firms with which CCIII collaborates are mainly located in the area surrounding the University, that is, the city of Madrid, the municipalities of Getafe and Leganes, and other towns and cities of the Madrid Region. This is proof of its capacity for transferring new knowledge to the surrounding community.

Campus Carlos III has implemented values of solidarity and cooperation not only in the outside community but also internally. In this vein, during the past academic year, active and decisive policies in relation to these values have been carried out, as well as in relation to sustainability and equality. Within this broad framework of social commitment, thinking especially of students, overall those with the greatest needs, there are noteworthy initiatives such as the following: the program for integration of disabled students, the Grant and Scholarship Observatory, the Tutoring Action Plan in the area of psychological and psycho-pedagogical counseling and orientation, not to mention underlying policies of equality and sustainability.

Commitment to sports does not end with service to the University community; it goes beyond, reaching out to the surrounding community. For that reason, from the beginning, the University has designated areas for sports instruction and practice: the existing Sports Complexes of Ignacio Pinedo in Getafe and Alfredo di Stefano in Leganés. In addition, a new Sports Center on the Getafe Campus has recently been completed with the following characteristics:

  • Investment and management; through PUBLIC WORKS CONCESSION
  • Estimated investment: 7.5 million €
  • Multi-purpose facility principally geared towards water activities and fitness in the realm of sports-health for all.
  • Completion deadline: April 2011
  • Currently, the University sports facilities are used approximately 45,000 times/year, not including any University organized activity. With the new Sports Center, the projection is to reach 150,000 uses/per year.
