The UC3M organises Technological Fridays 2021 for secondary schools

4/5/21

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is organising a new edition of its “Technological Fridays”, a series of virtual scientific and technological workshops about R&D&I at the University aimed at 4th year secondary school students, A-level students and students in training programmes.

These events aim to bring together research work in different scientific disciplines, such as bioengineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, robotics, or telecommunication, carried out at the UC3M in a fun manner. These workshops, given by teaching staff from the UC3M, will take place on Friday 16th and Friday 23rd April from 5pm to 7pm. In addition to this, another session that will focus on female students will be held on the 7th May within the framework of STEM for Girls UC3M, a programme that promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vocations among girls and young women which has been financed by the Women's Institute since 2019.

Students will be able to choose from a total of eight online workshops that will focus on topics such as 3D organ printing, constructing and launching a water rocket, cryptography and cybersecurity, the Arduino hardware and software ecosystem, micro-robotics, “micro:bit” programming, reducing carbon dioxide using photovoltaic panels, and information transmission in telecommunications.

Enrolment is already open and can be done via an electronic form. Each student may enrol themselves in up to three workshops, providing they are not being held on the same date.

This experience aims to bridge the gap between the university world and secondary school students, who will have to choose their degree programme shortly. The workshops aim to promote STEM career vocations and reinforce students’ skills in the area of technology.
