FAQ about the language level test UC3M

FAQS

How can I check the result of the level test I have taken? I need a document showing it.

Language level tests are recorded in the language passport, which you can download by accessing Aula Global → Virtual Secretary → Grades → Language Passport → Sigma language certificates. By clicking the box that appears to the left of the test, the option to print it as a PDF will appear.

Is there any preparation course for the language placement test?

No course is designed specifically to help you pass the University's placement test. This test assesses your level from A2 to B2 in general language skills, so any general language course will help you learn the main content of the level you need to certify and improve your knowledge to reach it. At the Language Rooms, we offer specific workshops to prepare for each section of the English and French placement tests.

What is the minimum score that must be achieved to obtain the B2 language level?

A score of 45 points or higher is required to be recognized as B2 level. The test consists of 60 questions, and you should bear in mind that each correct answer adds one point, and each incorrect or blank answer subtracts the following:

  • A2-level questions (- 0.33 points)
  • B1-level questions (- 0.25 points)
  • B2-level questions (- 0.17 points)

Is there a review of the placement test I have just taken?

There is no review of the test; however, you can find out the score you obtained in each section by requesting it by email from the Language Centre, so that you can strengthen the skills where you have the most mistakes.

Can I take the test online?

Online tests are reserved for certain cases in which the impossibility of attending in person is justified. To do so, you must send the request by email, once you have paid the fees and within the registration period for each test, indicating the reason that justifies your inability to attend the in-person exam.

Can I request a document that justifies the B2 level based on passing the university test if I took it before 2004?

All tests taken before the 2004-2005 academic year did not correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference and, under no circumstances, are they equivalent to an official certification; therefore, we cannot specify the level of that test.

When does registration for the call open and close each month?

In the "Booking your exam" section of the webpage: https://www.uc3m.es/languages/language-level-test, you will find a PDF with a calendar showing the exam sessions along with their registration deadlines.

How can I prepare for the language level test?

You can request guidance on preparatory materials and language advice at the Language Rooms in the libraries of the different campuses, either in person or by email at: auladeidiomas@fund.uc3m.es

In addition, the Language Rooms’ activity calendar offers preparation workshops for the English and French level tests. Check the following website for the schedules: https://www.uc3m.es/languages/language-rooms

Finally, you can consult the subject guides and resources available in the UC3M library: https://uc3m.libguides.com/guias_tematicas/idiomas/recursos

When will I have the result of the placement test? When will it appear in my academic record?

At the latest, within one week from the date the test is taken, you will have the result in your language passport. Campus Administration will take care of the rest of the procedures.

How many times can I take the level test during the same academic year?

Language level tests are offered once a month during the academic year from September to June. There is no limit to the number of times you can take them.

What are the computer requirements needed to take the test? If I do not meet them, what options do I have?

  • Laptop with a power cable in case the battery runs out
  • Mozilla Firefox browser installed.
  • Connection to the UC3M Wi-Fi because it is an online exam.
  • Headphones or earphones, preferably not wireless.

If you do not have a laptop, you can consult the laptop self-service loan service available in all the university libraries.

Can I take the UC3M level test even though I am not a student at this university?

There is no problem with people who are not part of the university taking this test. The assessment is valid for university procedures within UC3M; however, we recommend that you check with the institution where you intend to submit it to confirm that they also accept it.
