First day as a UC3M student: everything you need to know
Curso 2024/2025
7/9/24
In September we start the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. In this blog we will give you some practical tips for your first day as an international student at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
Welcome to Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)! We hope you enjoy your international stay in Spain to the fullest.
Please note that the tips provided in this blog are for incoming students from the programs offered by the Carlos III International School (C3IS). If you are part of an exchange program (such as Erasmus) or a Spanish upcoming student, please follow the instructions provided by the International Relations Service (SERINT).
Below, we present our guide of tips for a successful first day at UC3M.
Activate your UC3M email
The first thing you need to do is activate your university email account. UC3M provides you with a Gmail email account designed for you to receive all communications from the university and your professors. With this email account, you will have access to university services such as library loans, registration for sports and cultural activities, and much more!
To activate your email, follow the steps you will find at the following link. If you have any questions, you can find all the information in the Practical Information section of the C3IS website.
Attend the Welcome Event
To help you settle into university life, C3IS hosts a welcome event designed to answer all your questions. At this Welcome Event, you will find various talks and presentations, as well as fun activities and a delicious cocktail. There will also be many gifts and surprises! Although attendance is not mandatory, it is a unique opportunity to meet your peers, explore the campus, and meet the C3IS team, who will guide and support you throughout your stay in Spain.
There are three welcome events depending on the program you have enrolled in. All the information will be available on the C3IS Welcome Event website.
- The Welcome Day for the Study Abroad C3IS, Free Mover Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and International Engineering Program (PIEI) will be held on September 5, 2024, at the Auditorium of the Leganés campus (more information).
- The Welcome Day for the International Foundation Program will take place on September 6, 2024, in the Lecture Hall of the Getafe campus (more information).
- The Welcome Day and Pedagogical Sessions for the Dauphine Licence Madrid Program, will be held on September 19 and 20, 2024 at different classrooms in Building 9 and Aula Magna (further information).
We look forward to seeing you there!
Get your university card
The TUI or Intelligent University Card is a virtual student ID card that allows you to use university services and obtain other benefits and discounts outside the campus (such as the bike rental service). This card is integrated into our university's mobile application: the UC3M App.
You can find all the information about obtaining your TUI at this link.
Check your schedules and access Aula Global
On the UC3M website, there is a section where you can check your academic calendar, exams, and schedules. Just click here and log in with your credentials.
Similarly, you can access Aula Global, a virtual space where you can submit your classwork and find notes and materials provided by your professors.
You can save these two links for easy access or find them through the UC3M App.
If you need help, ask for it!
The first days at a foreign university are exciting, but they can also be challenging. If you have any problems, do not hesitate to contact the C3IS team for assistance. We are always here to help!
For specific inquiries about psychological support, workshops, or extracurricular activities, you can visit the student orientation center (these centers are marked on the UC3M maps). Check their schedules!
In addition to the help we can offer you from the university, you can also seek advice from other students. Each campus has its own student delegation, which helps new students as much as possible. You can also join the Buddy Program (check the deadlines), where an older student will become your mentor.
Lastly, if you need support measures for disabilities or have specific learning needs, let us know as soon as possible. Here is all the necessary information.
Stay informed
The UC3M website and the C3IS page are regularly updated to keep you informed of all the news. You will learn about all the sports and cultural activities proposed by the university and read the latest news about our scientific, artistic, and institutional activities.
Every week, you will receive the university newsletter in your UC3M email, with all the week's events, as well as scholarships, grants, awards, and contests. Be sure to read it!
Additionally, you can follow us on our social media (X, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook) and check our bulletin boards on the Getafe and Leganés campuses. You can also share your posts with us if you think they might be of interest!
We hope these tips have been helpful and that you have a wonderful first day as a UC3M student!
