Semester French courses

Niveles

We offer courses from A1 to C1 level, all in accordance with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Opening groups is subject to a minimum number of students enrolled. If you already have knowledge of the language, you will have to take a level test to join the most suitable group for you.

Tuesday and Thursday groups: from October 2 to December 9, 2025

Monday and Wednesday: from October 1 to December 10, 2025

Friday groups: from October 3 to December 5, 2025

This is the course

In our semester courses in collaboration with the Alliance Française of Madrid, a communicative approach is followed, and all linguistic skills are worked on: oral and written comprehension, expression and interaction. Class sessions are designed to ensure constant interaction with the teacher and your classmates, encouraging dynamic and practical learning.

Discounts

A 5% discount will be applied to the price of the course for former students of the Language Center.

Face-to-face course timetable

At Getafe, Leganés, and Colmenarejo campuses

For levels A1 to B1

  • Mondays and Wednesdays: 12:30 - 14:30
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 15:30 - 17:30

For levels B2 to C1

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 15:30 - 17:30
  • Fridays: 10:00 – 14:00

Registration

Registration period for 1ºC 2025/2026: from August 26 to September 17, 2025

Registration procedure:

If you have knowledge of French:

  • Complete the PLACEMENT TEST.
  • Afterwards, you will receive a phone call from the Alliance Française to take an oral test.
  • Once both tests are completed, you will receive information about your level and will be able to choose your preferred schedule.

If you have no prior knowledge of French:

  • Contact the Alliance Française at alumnosuc3m@afmadrid.net.
  • They will inform you of the steps to follow to complete your registration. (If you are a UC3M student, please use your university email address to identify yourself).

You will receive an email from the Alliance Française with information about the course when the registration period ends.

  • Objectives
    • Engage in comprehensive work in all communicative competences, oral as well as written.
    • Acquire the tools necessary to improve oral fluency appropriate to the level.
    • Improve and broaden the student’s lexical range.
    • Work towards attaining grammatical accuracy.
  • Assessment
    • Grade for participation and progress in the online sessions: 30%
    • Grade for homework, assignments and autonomous work: 30%
    • Final exam grade: 40%

    The exam will assess all the communicative elements of the language with a maximum of 10 points possible:

    • Written expression and interaction(2 points)
    • Reading comprehension (2 points)
    • Listening and audiovisual comprehension (2 points)
    • Oral expression and interaction. (2 points)
    • Grammar and vocabulary (2 points)

    In order to pass the course, the student must receive a grade of 5 in each of the three parts: participation and progress, homework, and exam.

    The exam will be given through Aula Global and Blackboard Collaborate.

     
  • Attendance

    ATTENDANCE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN CREDITS

    A student may only be absent for up to 20% of the course (8 hours) for any reason.

    A student who fails to meet the attendance requirement for any reason will be allowed to take the final examination but will not receive credit.
