    The Master in Computer Science and Technology offers advanced training in computer science that provide our students with an academic and R&D specialization in the areas of artificial intelligence, software engineering and secure, multimedia and distributed systems.

    The Master Program aims at students to acquire advanced scientific and technological knowledge on this subject and master a set of theoretical principles, scientific methods and formal instruments that enable them to carry out research, development and innovation work in this area, all in a flexible way to facilitate its adaptation to a rapidly changing environment such as IT.

    Considering the diversity of aspects within the discipline of computing and the speed with which they all evolve, the success of this master is to have a group of specialists, all doctors, very heterogeneous that can cover the range of topics on information technology and who are carrying out leading research in the laboratories of which they are members, as well as the transfer of research results to the industrial sector. You can increase the value of your CV, during your studies in this master, since if you wish you can be linked to one of the research groups to which the experts who teach the master, and you will have an accreditation that guarantees you as a member of that group during that period.

    Imagen Ciencia y Tecnología Informática

    A total of 18 electives, each worth 3 ECTS credits, are offered, from which students have to choose 10. Three educational tracks are defined for electives in order to steer students towards the acquisition of a homogeneous skill set. It is not, however, compulsory for students to follow any particular track, in which case they will acquire a more multidisciplinary training.

    The master's thesis, which is worth 18 credits, will involve writing and presenting a research paper addressing any one of the curriculum areas at a public meeting before an examination panel. There are no pre-established faculty members associated with the master's thesis, although each paper will be supervised of one or more members of the Department of Computer Science who hold a PhD.

    Requirements

    The provisions of RD 1393/2007, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, were taken into account in order to define the entry requirements for the Master in Computer Science and Technology. Candidates must certify that they hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in order to be eligible for admission to the master. International students from outside the EHEA must certify that they are qualified for admission to postgraduate courses.

    Candidates must also attach a motivational statement outlining the main reasons why they would like to take this master, their CV, an academic transcript of previous higher education programs, and two reference letters.

    Students admitted to this accredited degree program are required to hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer engineering related studies. Other graduates with knowledge and skills of a level equivalent to holders of bachelor of engineering or science degrees are also eligible for admission to this master's degree.

    As an essential requirement for admission to the program, students must provide a certificate of English language proficiency. The required level of English proficiency shall be at least B2 level (CEFR: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Students whose first language is not Spanish shall require at least B2 level Spanish.

     

    Admission Criteria

    Master in Computer Science and Technology Academic Committee members shall assess the applicant's profile and aptness for successfully completing the degree program. If deemed necessary, the committee may hold a personal interview with applicants in order to better evaluate their application. Student admission will depend on an assessment of the following criteria:

    For students with special educational needs because of a disability, the committee shall make arrangements for the use of Universidad Carlos III of Madrid support and advisory services and determine appropriate adaptations.

    Language requirements

    You can check the language requirements of generic language required to study a master at UC3M, depending on is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

    Foreign students

    Once admitted to the Master, foreign students with university degree issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EEES, must present, for enrollment, the diploma attesting equivalent training that allows access to postgraduate studies, legalized by diplomatic procedures, or “The Hague Convention Apostille”. More information about Legalization of Documents.

    If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

    Complete study aids for the year 2017/2018

    EXTENSION M01-1617-1A (CALL M01-1718)

    For the academic year 2017-18 a call for 3 aids has been made for students who have applied for admission or are admitted to the master's program, with the following endowment:

    • The monthly endowment of scholarships will be an amount of €909 gross. Also, the aid will include amounts to cover tuition fees in the first full-time enrollment.

      ☛ The application process for academic year 2017/2018 is now open

       

      The UC3M offers you the possibility of jointly studying the Master in Informatics Engineering, along with the Master in Computer Science and Technology. The former allows you to acquire the training to practice as a Informatics Engineer. This study option means you will obtain a high level of specialization and research training that will put you in prime position regarding employment and / or access to Ph.D. studies.

      Admission and enrollment in the Double Master, allow for the exemption of validated ECTS, according to the curriculum plan (see Program). Completing the credits from both curricula along with getting 30 ECTS recognized will allow you to obtain two officially recognized Master in a little more than a year and a half.

      Master in Informatics Engineering

      The Master in Informatics Engineering (Computer Engineering) combines advanced training in aspects of Direction and Management of IT projects with other aspects of Information Technology. This training program aims to fulfil its objective by training professionals who are competent to practice as computer engineers.

      The program is fully adapted to the recommendations for recognition of official qualifications in the Informatics Engineering Profession, General Secretariat of Universities (BOE 4 August 2009).

      The Master is made up of 90 ECTS credits. A group taught in Spanish is offered, divided into three semesters and organized into the following modules:

      • Direction and Management: This module provides advanced training in legal matters, technology company management, strategic planning and project management, paying special attention to innovation and R & D management.
      • Information Technology: This module allows students to engage in further study of technological aspects typical of computer engineering, which will enable students to gain an overview and detailed knowledge of this area.
      • Master's Thesis: This involves preparing a comprehensive project for Computer Engineering with a professional slant.

      Master in Computer Science and Technology

      The Master in Computer Science and Technology program is geared towards advanced specialized or multidisciplinary training aimed at either providing an academic or professional specialization or promoting initiation into research.

      El Plan de estudios de este Doble Máster se estructura en dos años académicos en los que cursarás 90 ects correspondientes al Máster U. en Ingeniería Informática y 30 ects del Máster U. en Ciencia y Tecnología Informática. Los 120 créditos totales del doble plan de estudios se desglosan de la siguiente forma:

      • En el primer año se cursan asignaturas del Máster en Ingeniería Informática (30 ects en cada cuatrimestre). En cada cuatrimestre cursarás 6 asignaturas obligatorias, cuatro de 6 ects y dos de 3 ects.
      • Durante el segundo año de docencia, cursarás cuatro asignaturas de Ingeniería Informática, 2 asignaturas de Ciencia y Tecnología Informática, y los 2 Trabajos de Fin de Máster.

      Se te reconocerán 30 créditos ects, y al finalizar obtendrás dos títulos de Máster Oficial.

      Requirements

      The following candidates may be admitted to the Master in Informatics Engineering from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid:

      • Graduates holding Bachelor's Degrees in Informatics Engineering with any specialty (Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or Information Technology).
      • Graduates holding Bachelor's Degrees Informatics Engineering who, although they have not specialized in one of the areas mentioned above, can provide evidence to prove completion of the foundational training and modules usual for this course of study. If they still have not covered an entire block of the specific technology module, they could enter with 48 credits from those offered in the blocks for that module.
      • Graduates with university degrees in Engineering.
      • Graduates in Computer Science/ Informatics Engineering (five-year course: Licenciados).
      • Computer Science/ Informatics Engineering graduates (three-year course: Ingeniero Técnicos and Diplomados)

      Note: For students who have not completed their undergraduate dissertation, admission will be conditional on the defence and approval of the dissertation before October 31.

       

      Admission criteria

      Student selection will be based on the applicant's CV. Specifically, we will consider the following aspects:

      • The applicant's academic record.
      • Applicant's professional experience in the Computer Engineering field.
      • Any letters of support and academic or professional references vouching for the applicant's admission to the Master. (Applicant must provide two reference letters).

      In the event that the course is oversubscribed due to high demand, personal interviews with candidates may be conducted

      Enrollment

      Enrollment in the Master's Degree will occur when the application stage has been passed and after completion of the admission process

      Enrollment completely registers the student in the Master's Degree.

      A minimum enrollment of 25 students will have to be reached for each elective subject to be taught.
