Research stay at UC3M: SIGNAL THEORY AND COMMUNICATIONS

Project:

The purpose of this interdisciplinary research programme is to create synergy effects between the emerging technology field of Terahertz (THz) micromachining, the field of expertise of the guest professor Joachim Oberhammer from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and the research field of microwave photonics devices and systems for scientific, telecommunication, and test&measurement applications, the field of expertise of the hosting professors Prof. Luis Enrique García Muñoz (microwave-photonics upconversion) and Prof. G. Carpintero del Barrio, UC3M (microwave photonics for telecommunication). Specifically, THz micromachining will be investigated for (1) micromechanically-tuneable microwave-photonics upconversion for ultra-high sensitivity room-temperature radiometric detection; (2) highly miniaturized, micromachined opto-electronic converters for ultra-wide bandwidth sub-THz telecommunication and contact-free THz measurement interfaces. This specific objectives of this project are to investigate novel concepts, verify these concepts by electromagnetic simulations, develop the microfabrication process schemes, and complete designs of microsystem for experimental verification.
