Professor Lourdes Rubio Ruiz de Aguirre

Lourdes Rubio Ruiz de Aguirre is Professor of Mechanical Engineering since 2018, she is a MSc (Polytechnic University of Madrid 1995) and a PhD (Carlos III University of Madrid 1999) in Mechanical Engineering. In 1996, she joined University Carlos III as an assistant professor after having worked for a year at TGI as a research staff.

During these more than 20 years of service at the University, she has taught more than 20 different subjects in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught also different courses in the field of mechanical engineering. She has supervised more than 50 final study theses and has been an Erasmus coordinator since 2008.

Her field of research is related with the identification of damages in mechanical and biomechanical components and with the resolution of inverse problems in Mechanical Engineering. She is co-responsible of the SiOMec Research Group (Simulation and Optimization in Mechanical Engineering) since its creation in 2016. She has participated in 10 research projects financed in public calls, in 4 of them being the principal researcher. She is author of more than 70 scientific publications in journals and conferences. She has made several stays in prestigious research centers such as the Steel Construction Institute of the Imperial College of London or the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) of the University of Manchester.

In parallel to the teaching and research activity, she has carried out management tasks practically since she joined the University. Since 1998 she has been elected member of several boards of the University. Between 2008 and 2012 she was the Director of the Degree in Mechanical Engineering for 4 years and of the Degree in Industrial Technologies Engineering for 2 years. She was the Director of the Master in Industrial Mechanics for 3 years (2012-2015). For 9 years she was member of the organizing committee for the subject Technical Drawing for the University Access Exams. Since 2015 she has been Deputy Vice-Rector for Internationalization and European University in charge of the Mobility Programs.
