Coronavirus (COVID-19): information and measures

3/4/20

The public universities of Madrid have agreed to coordinate on the announcement of all information regarding the evolution of the coronavirus that is relevant to their communities, thereby guaranteeing the flow of relevant and verified information. All this information will be published regularly on the website: www.uc3m.es

1. General recommendations for the University Community:

As a general rule, it is advised to follow the recommendations of the following bodies:

Summary of the general preventative measures:

  • If suffering from a respiratory infection, avoid close contact with other people.
  • When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or with a disposable tissue.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Wash your hands frequently.

If you have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing, call 900 102 112 from your home address to receive assistance.

2. People at the UC3M arriving from affected areas in the last 14 days:

People coming from areas considered at risk should follow the recommendations of the Spanish government through the Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare (Ministerio de Sanidad, Consumo y Bienestar Social).

Although there are currently no specific containment or quarantine measures, the University recommends:

  • Checking your temperature daily.
  • Being vigilant for the appearance of symptoms of a respiratory infection: cough, fever, breathing difficulties, etc.
  • Washing your hands regularly or using a hydroalcoholic solution.
  • Avoiding contact with people who are at risk (pregnant women, the elderly and people with long-term illnesses).
  • Avoiding any unnecessary travel, especially to places with a large population.

As with the above general recommendations, if suffering from a fever, cough or breathing difficulties, contact 900 102 112, informing them of your travel and the symptoms.

3. People at the UC3M who are in any of the affected areas:

The International Relations and Cooperation Service (Servicio de Relaciones Internacionales y Cooperación) is in contact with all students who are in affected areas outside of Spain. Moreover, in accordance with the specific measures published by SEPIE (Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education), the UC3M has informed students participating in the Erasmus+ Programme of the possibility of cancelling the foreseen mobilities in the areas where, according to official sources, a risk of contagion exists. The mobilities that are cancelled or postponed, as well as those that are studying in said countries without being able to complete them, can be justified as force majeure in the case of any costs being incurred. The UC3M will also provide the procedures so that, on reincorporating the student in to the UC3M, they will not be affected by the continuous assessment processes that could be in progress.
