The UC3M launches its MakerSpace, a space for collaborative work among students

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) has launched a new area of digital learning and creation based on collaboration and the exchange of experiences and knowledge among students, called MakerSpace. The goal is for students to have a collaborative workspace available to them where they can come up with ideas and develop projects.
The launch event, which took place in the Graduation Hall at the UC3M’s Leganés campus, was presided over by the president, Juan Romo, and by the vice-president of Digital Strategy and Education, Carlos Delgado Kloos. The opening day saw the holding of the conference "Be a Maker and a Movement Maker in Spain" under the guidance of César García Sáez, from MakerSpace Madrid, and a round table in which several students from UC3M’s Higher Polytechnic School discussed the opportunities offered by this new space.
This working area, located on the ground floor of the Rey Pastor library on UC3M’s Leganés campus, will allow students to avail of materials, tools and equipment for their projects, to meet colleagues with similar interests, to explore new technologies and to work together with students from other disciplines. In addition, it will offer events that promote horizontal exchange and creativity, such as discussion panels, courses and workshops.
There are three ways to use the MakerSpace. The first of these is the Individual Project modality, in which students can propose work that complements their learning within the university, with innovative ad hoc projects or with work arising from the university activity itself (this modality includes projects related to the Final Degree and Master Projects). The second is the collective modality, in which the students propose group work. The third is the Associations modality, which provides the UC3M’s student associations with a space where they can work and develop their projects.
