Doctoral Training Scholarships

Ayudas predoctorales

There is a wide range of pre-doctoral scholarships that cover tuition fees (part or all of them) and may on occasion allow UC3M to offer the candidate a work contract as a research assisstant.
 

Each awarding body has its own deadlines, application process and selection criteria. 


Besides applying for financial aid, it is necessary to submit an application to the UC3M Ph.D. Program, since awarding bodies will require candidates to provide proof of acceptance to a Ph.D. Program during the application process.


Doctoral research will be carried out as part of the Ph.D. Program in which the student is enrolled, under the supervision of the assigned tutor and advisor. Research and teaching activity will be conducted at the Department or Institute where the contract is based.


The following is a list of the most common pre-doctoral scholarships:

1.- Research Training Scholarships at Universities and R&D Public Centers awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (former FPU)

 

These are scholarships received once a year by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid to fund research training employment contracts up to a maximum of four years, for Ph.D. students in all research areas, whose aim is providing the National Higher Education System and Scientific Research with new teaching staff.
 

This is a two-stages competitive call and the scholarships will be awarded before of the start of the next academic year 2017-2018.
 

Last call was launched in January 2017, with a deadline in February 2017.


The aid covers a work contract as a teaching assistant and Ph.D. monitoring fees (390€ according to tuition fees for the academic year 2016-2017)

2.- Research Training Scholarships at Universities and R&D Public Centers awarded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (former FPI)

 

These are scholarships received once a year by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid to fund research training employment contracts up to a maximum of four years, offered by the National Sub-Programme for Training, which belongs to the National Programme for the Promotion of Talent and Its Employability and within the framework of the Spanish National Plan for Scientifc and Technical Research and Innovation 2013-2016, whose aim is to increase both the number of new doctors and their quality.


Last call was launched in September 2017.
 

This is also a competitive call and the scholarships will be awarded within 6 months from the date of the last call.


The aid covers a work contract as a research assistant and a €6,250 educational grant, which covers academic fees (Ph.D. monitoring fees, complementary training credits, subject-specific training and doctoral research skills training), and research visits.

3.- UC3M Scholarships

 

 

Pre-doctoral research training scholarships


The Vice-chancellorship for Faculty announces research training scholarships at UC3M, which consist of research training contracts. After being awarded by these scholarships, beneficiaries will join the different UC3M Departments and Doctoral Programs.


There are two main calls:

  1.  In April, which are awarded in July and whose beneficiaries join the Department in September,
     
  2.  In October, which are awarded in January and whose beneficiaries join the Department in February.


These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.


The aid covers a work contract as a teaching assistant and Ph.D. monitoring fees (390€ according to tuition fees for the academic year 2016-2017) as well as 6 credit fees for complementary or research skills training.

 

Last call was launched in June-July 2017, with a deadline in July 2017.

Scholarships for predoctoral contracts funded by Research Projects

 

Those scholarships are awarded to write the doctoral thesis within the framework of UC3M Research Projects. 

There are also two main calls:

  1.  In April, which are awarded in July and whose beneficiaries join the Department in September,
     
  2.  In October, which are awarded in January and whose beneficiaries join the Department in February.

The aid covers a work contract as a research assistant.

Last call was launched in October 2017, with a deadline in November 2017.

4.- Other Scholarships


La Caixa


Obra Social La Caixa announces scholarships for Ph.D. studies. 
 

The aid covers a work contract as a research assistant.


Last call was launched in November 2017, with a deadline in February 2018.

Fundación Carolina


Fundación Carolina offers scholarships which aim to obtain a Ph.D. degree, to citizens from any of the Latin American countries that make up the Latin American Community of Nations.  

Last call was launched in January 2017, with a deadline in April 2017.


The aid covers:
 

  • €1200 monthly grant for living costs (maintenance and accommodation)
  • 3 economy-class roundtrip plane tickets from the capital city of the beneficiary's country, one ticket per each academic year.
  • Academic fees (Ph.D. monitoring fees, complementary training credits, subject-specific training and doctoral research skills training)
  • Health insurance. Prescription drug coverage is not included.
