Call for UC3M research groups: YUFE - Full Open Science (FOS)

Are you committed to Open Science? Do you share your publications and research data, and would you like your institution to help you do so and recognize it?

We present the FOS (Full Open Science) initiative fostered by UC3M within the YUFERING project in the context of the YUFE Alliance (Young Universities for the Future of Europe).

Through this call, UC3M research groups have the opportunity to bet on Open Science, and become ambassadors of Open Science in our university, with the support of UniOS and receiving the recognition of "Full Open Science" Group.

Context and objectives

This initiative is part of the work led by UC3M on Open Science, in the YUFERING project, to promote the cultural change involved in Open Science in the members institutions of the YUFE Alliance.

UC3M launched an internal pilot of Full Open Science (FOS) groups in 2019-2020 where 6 research groups were actively involved and obtained the UC3M FOS seal. In this pilot we managed to disseminate 639 publications and 167 open datasets.

In this new call, we want to further enhance our impact and the impact of YUFE in the new European Research Area (ERA) where Open Science is a fundamental value for research. Thus, the objectives of the YUFE-FOS call are:

  • Encourage a practical approach to Open Science by researchers.
  • To increase the number of publications, data and educational resources in open access, as well as to promote dissemination practices and openness to the community.
  • To link researchers with libraries and Open Science units in YUFE universities.
  • To involve researchers in strengthening the commitment of their research groups to Open Science.
  • To provide researchers with a seal of recognition that allows them to legitimise their practice in Open Science, in the participation in Horizon Europe and Agencia Española de Investigación (AEI) calls for projects.

The FOS seal will turn the research groups that obtain it into ambassadors or role-models capable of promoting Open Science in our university. The researchers of the group will benefit from the boost in their academic visibility, as well as from the support of the university when publishing their research results in open access.

Applicants: How to participate

The FOS call is aimed to research groups from the universities in the YUFE Alliance, not individuals, although it is true that individual commitment to Open Science is fundamental for the teams.

In the case of UC3M, any of the 136 active research groups formally defined in UC3M may participate.

To participate, the only thing that interested research groups need to do is to fill in this application form. The form will be open from June 2022 to May 2023, but the first groups that request it will be included in the programme, as we cannot guarantee support to all groups. The head of the research group, or the person delegated by him, will be the contact for any question related to the call.

Support and training

In order for the research groups participating in the call to meet the criteria that make them a Full Open Science group (YUFE-FOS), they will have the support of the university through the Open Science Unit (UniOS) in:

  • Deposit of research results in the university's own open access repositories and platforms.
  • Training on Open Science.
  • Advice on intellectual property.
  • Information on citizen science initiatives and any other Open Science initiative in which UC3M participates.

Results, assessment and FOS Label

The University will publish the final resolution of the research groups that obtain the FOS seal after verifying that they have met the criteria.

Deadlines

Submission of applications (open): as soon as possible after the publication of this call.

Deadline to fulfill the requirements: 31 May 2023.
