    Máster en Derechos Fundamentales
  • PROGRAM

The programme consists of four thematic blocks, a legal clinic and an End of Master's Project

The four thematic blocks are preceded by an "Introduction to the study of fundamental rights" and are composed of three modules of specific content: general theory; legal regime and current guarantees and challenges of human rights. It ends with a module dedicated to the design and financing of human rights projects.

A legal clinic is offered and a Master's dissertation must be presented, in which two variants are offered: "on line" or face-to-face defence.

Module I.- Introduction to the study of fundamental rights (1 ECTS)
Coord: Prof. José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes

This is a general introduction to the course whose central idea is that the teaching of fundamental rights can be understood in two ways: as instruction (study and knowledge) and as education (commitment and humanist training). Instruction provides the theoretical and practical tools for understanding what rights are, what features define them from a philosophical or legal point of view, and how they have evolved. Education places us in the values they represent, in the ideology of rights, as well as in their normative function to build more just, free and civilized societies.

Module II - General Theory (6 ECTS)
    Coord: Prof. Ángel Llamas Cascón

This module is composed of three fundamental questions: 1) what is understood by the concept and foundation of human rights and what is its relevance; 2) the main features of the legal-political context in which the Legal Theory of Law is developed, the main features and consequences of the legal institutionalization of rights; 3) the history and foundation of human rights.Module III.- Legal system and guarantees (6 ECTS)

Módulo III.- Régimen jurídico y garantías (6 ECTS)
    Coord: Prof. Félix Vacas Fernández

The systems of protection of human rights are studied: the universal system and the regional systems (Europe, America and Africa); thus with the activity of the International Criminal Court (Rome Statute). Due to its importance, the Spanish system of protection and its normative, jurisdictional and institutional guarantees are studied.

Module IV: Current Challenges of Human and Fundamental Rights (21 ECTS)
Coord. Profa. Dra. Vanesa Morente Parra

It is the largest block in which a variety of current issues are addressed: 1) social rights and new rights (health, education, work, environment, new technologies, etc.); 2) vulnerable groups (immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities; children and the elderly; people living in poverty; LGTBI collective; prisoners; indigenous peoples); 3) violence, terrorism, transitional justice and historical memory.

Module V.- Management and financing of human rights projects (6 ECTS)
    Coord. Prof. Ignacio Pérez Macías

It is a module designed to explain how a human rights project can be carried out. It explains the different phases for its elaboration, the execution and evaluation of its activities, as well as the search for funds and resources with which to face the material and personal expenses. Also the operations of justification of the economic funds used as well as the publication of the final results achieved.

Module VI - Legal Clinic (5 ECTS)
Coord. Profa. María del Carmen Barranco Avilés

Legal clinics are a type of service-learning that combines a higher education function of law and a social function. It aims to bring human rights education closer to practice in order to improve technical skills and foster the social commitment of future professionals. To this end, students will work on cases and issues related to real violations of rights denounced by civil society.
