Oana Cazacu

Oana Cazacu- University of Florida.USA

Oana Cazacu is Charles E. Taylor Professor of Mechanics in the Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of Florida’s graduate research engineering and education center in Shalimar. She has Habilitation and Doctoral degrees from Univ. of Lille, France. She has been recipient of visiting chair professorships in Europe (e.g. Univ. Pierre and Marie Curie; Univ. Paris XIII, Paris), and Australia (Swinburne Univ., Melbourne). She is Associated Editor of the International Journal Forming and has authored a monograph, edited or co-edited books and special issues of international journals in plasticity. Her main research interests lie in theoretical and computational solid mechanics with focus on multi-scale modeling of plasticity and damage in textured metals. Major contributions include the development of widely used anisotropic criteria for lightweight metals, now included in the built-in materials library of commercial and academic finite-element softwares.

Research stay at UC3M: Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis

Project

Professor Cazacu will be working with Professor José A. Rodríguez-Martínez on the influence of anisotropy on the initiation and evolution of plasticity (irreversible deformation) in metallic materials processed by non-conventional methods (e.g. additive manufacturing) for dynamic loadings. Modeling couplings between plasticity and damage is of crucial importance for understanding ductile failure. However, at present isotropic behavior is generally assumed. Prof. Rodriguez -Martínez expertise on modeling dynamic instabilities combined with Cazacu’s expertise on anisotropy will contribute to elucidating the combined effects of anisotropy and specific mechanisms of plastic deformation on localization of deformation, shear bands formation, the nature, size, and distribution of fragments resulting from various loading scenarios applied to those systems.
