- Valle Inclán at UC3M, a New Proposal by the Theater Group
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) brings culture to its students through a variety of activities and performances. One of the latest proposals was the presentation of La marquesa Rosalinda (The Marchioness Rosalinda) by Ramón María del Valle- Inclán, which opened at the UC3M Auditorium on June 23rd. It was also shown on June 27th in the Residencia de Estudiantes (Students’ Residence) in Madrid. The theater group is made up of university students under the direction of Abel González Melo.
For over two decades the UC3M Theater Group has presented a variety of performances, workshops and courses, and has participated in important competitions and tours throughout Spain and other countries such as Portugal, France, Italy and Slovenia. This has allowed many graduates to obtain complementary artistic training while completing their university degrees.
The staging of La marquesa Rosalinda was part of the program of concerts and performances offered at the UC3M Auditorium, an arts center with seating for over one thousand spectators, which makes it one of the largest in the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
In addition to theater, UC3M trains its students in other artistic disciplines, such as dance and music. In the area of dance, there are workshops, projects in creation for high school students, and a professional choreography competition; in addition, the University collaborates with El Laboratorio, a contemporary dance troupe that has participated in several national and international festivals.
UC3M also has a choir and an orchestra, and organizes courses, workshops and master classes to foment music appreciation. In addition, for opera lovers the La Ópera a Escena (Opera on Stage) courses include guided visits and attendance at an opera performance at Madrid’s Teatro Real (Royal Theater).
Many of the UC3M cultural activities, in addition to completing the students’ education, are integrated within their study plans. The Pasaporte Cultural (Cultural Passport) gives academic recognition to the students’ participation in this type of workshop.
