Daniel Rittel

Daniel Rittel - Technion, Israel Institute of Technology (ISRAEL)

Daniel Rittel received his PhD and MSc in Materials Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and graduated in Materials Engineering, specializing in Nuclear Engineering, from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Dr. Rittel is Professor in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Israel Institute of Technology. He also held a Visiting Professor position at the California Institute of Technology, among others. He worked as a Research Scientist in the Solid Mechanics Division at the Polytechnic School in Palaiseau, France and was Associate Director of RADIAN Engineering and Technology Ltd. His research interests focus on Mechanics and Materials, Fracture mechanics; Numerical modeling of material/structural behavior, and Failure analysis of materials/mechanic systems. He has collaborated as Editor of Mechanics of Materials, The Open Mechanics Journal, International Journal of Engineering Science y Experimental Mechanics, and has authored or co-authored nearly one hundred publications.

RESEARCH STAY AT UC3M: CONTINUUM MECHANICS AND STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS DEPARTMENT

PROJECT: The purpose of Dr. Rittel's visit to the University Carlos III of Madrid is to establish a collaboration with the researchers of the Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Engineering in the field of dynamic failure of materials and structures (blast, impact and penetration). The idea is to discuss and implement new experimental approaches pertaining to the thermomechanics and failure criteria under dynamic loading, and their implementation into numerical simulation schemes.

Stay Period: DEC 11 - AUG 12
