Gerhard Fischer - University of Colorado, Boulder (USA)

Gerhard Fischer is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Colorado at Boulder and member of the Institute of Cognitive Science. He is currently Director of the Center for Lifelong Learning and Design After receiving his Master’s in Mathematics, Dr. Fischer turned to Computer Science, the area in which he received his PhD from the University of Hamburg. His current research interests span many areas, but are generally related to learning and how Computer Science can contribute to its development. Dr. Fischer approaches this topic from different angles such as Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science. Some of his current publications are: Organizational Memory and Organizational Learning y CLever: Building Cognitive Levers to help people help themselves.

RESEARCH STAY AT UC3M: COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT / INSTITUTE OF CULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY

PROJECT: His research will create the foundations for a fundamental shift from a consumer culture (specialized in producing finished goods to be consumed passively) to a culture of participation (in which all people are provided with the means to participate actively in personally meaningful activities). It will be developed a broad-based framework for socio-technical environments supporting cultures of participation that will put equal emphasis on technological, cognitive and social dimensions.
