Alain G. Gagnon - University of Quebec (CANADA)

Alain-G. Gagnon is Canada Research Chair in Quebec and Canadian Studies and Professor of Political Science at the University of Quebec in Montreal. Dr. Gagnon has also held teaching positions at Queen’s University in Ontario, Carleton University in Ottawa, and McGill University in Quebec where he was Associate Professor from 1992-2003.

He has held visiting appointments at the Autònoma University of Barcelona, the Institute of Political Studies in Bordeaux, and Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

He is the author of more than 60 publications, in addition to nearly 100 scientific articles and more than 200 conference talks around the world. His work has been translated into dozens of languages and concentrates on multinational federalism, nationalism, identity politics, and party politics.

He is a founding member of the Research Group on Multinational Societies and member of the Ethnicity and Democratic Governance Group. In 2007 he received the Marcel-Vincent award for Social Sciences from the French Canadian Association for the Advancement of Sciences (ACFAS).

RESEARCH STAY AT UC3M: INTERNATIONAL LAW, ECCLESIASTICAL LAW AND LAW PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT

PROJECT: The concept of federalism with the goal of extracting the basic principles around which it can create a significant contribution to humanity and the advancement of democracy. Identity, Pluralism and Democracy, emphasizing the question of identity as the most novel element in the current panorama of Legal and Political philosophy.
