Luis Garicano - London School of Economics and Political Science (UK)

Luis Garicano is Professor of Economics and Strategy, Departments of Management and of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He received his undergraduate degrees in Economics and Law at the University of Valladolid, Spain. He holds a Master’s in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe, and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Chicago where he also earned his PhD in Economics.

He is Director of the Master’s Program “Management and Economics” at the London School of Economics where he was also Director of Research, Management Department. Prior to that, he held the position of Professor of Economics and Strategy at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Garicano has published numerous articles in prestigious journals such as the Journal of the European Economic Association and the Review of Law and Economics, among others. Currently he is co-editor of the Journal of Law, Economics and Organization.

He received the Banco Herrero Prize 2007 for the best young economist in Spain and was also Keynote Speaker at the Spanish Economic Association Conference. Among his other distinctions he held a University of Chicago Doctoral Fellowship.

RESEARCH STAY AT UC3M: ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT

PROJECT: Research on the importance of Human Capital in the Spanish Savings Banks in determining their portfolios in the years prior to the crisis, as well as their current financial situation (non-payment, loan default, etc).
