Anthony Roy West

Anthony Roy West - University of Sheffield (UK)

Anthony Roy West earned his PhD in Chemical Science and Physics from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where he has spent most of his academic career. Later he joined the faculty of the University of Sheffield, UK.

His research is a multidisciplinary blend of Physics, Chemistry and Inorganic Materials Engineering, which focuses on materials with interesting and/or useful electrical properties, especially ionic conductors, mixed  ionic/electronic conductors, semiconductors, ferro- and di-electrics.

He has worked on the development of new materials for lithium battery applications, synthesis and characterisation of new rare earth ion-doped barium titanate, and understanding the structure-property correlations that control the performance of zinc oxide varistors and barium titanate positive temperature coefficient of resistance devices, among others.

Dr. West has written several books on Chemistry. He was founding editor of the Journal of Materials Chemistry and founding Chairman of the Materials Chemistry Forum of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

RESEARCH STAY AT UC3M: MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

PROJECT: The work carried out at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is related to Advanced Materials, especially in the Area of Electroceramics. These materials have a large variety of high tech applications, such as energy generation and storage systems focussed on fuel cells and lithium batteries.

STAY PERIOD: NOV 08 - MAY 09
