Aiyalan Balachadran - Syracuse University USA

Aiyalam P. Balachandran graduated from the Madras Christian College in Chennai, in southern India, which is one of the oldest educational centers in Asia. Later, he took a PhD at the University of Madras, under the supervision of Professor Alladi  Ramakrishnan.

Dr. Balachandran holds the Joel Dorman Steele Chair in Physics at Syracuse University, New York, and is a member of the  American Physical Society, the second largest organization of physicists in the world, with close to 46,000 members. He is well known for his pioneering topological methods in Quantum Physics, including the Theory of Skyrmiones, and for his recent work in the field of noncommutative geometry.

Dr. Balanchandran is the co-author of various books, such as “Classical Topology and Quantum States”, “Gauge Symmetries and Fibre Bundles: Applications to Particle Dynamics” or “Lectures on Fuzzy and Fuzzy Susy Physics”. Among other honors, in 1990, Syracuse University awarded him the Chancellor’s Citation for Exceptional Academic Achievement, and in 1991 he won the William Wasserstrom Prize for Outstanding Graduate Teaching at the university.
