PhD's: Information and application procedures

UC3M Doctoral studies are geared toward training researchers within the framework of the University’s research lines and strategy.  All of the PhD Programs consist of specific training in the scientific or technological area of his/her field and the carrying out on the part of the doctoral candidate of original and unpublished research work of high scientific quality, done independently and under the advice and supervision of expert researchers.
The doctoral studies entail a maximum of three years, from the moment of enrollment (although a two-year extension may be requested).

The period of doctoral studies culminates in the preparation of a doctoral thesis statement which shall give an account of the research work carried out and the results obtained.  The doctoral thesis must meet the scientific quality requirements of the Doctoral Program and must be publicly defended and evaluated by an independent and expert Committee.

Once the defense and evaluation of the dissertation is carried out, the PhD holder can request the Official PhD Degree in the corresponding area, which will be issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
