Professor David Rodríguez Mateos
David Rodríguez Mateos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Carlos III University of Madrid. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism (1995) from Carlos III University of Madrid and a PhD in Documentation (2004) from Carlos III University of Madrid.
He has taught in the Departments of Library and Information Science (2000–2013) and Communication (formerly Journalism and Audiovisual Communication) since 2013.
Member of the Tecmerin research group, dedicated to the study of audiovisual content and media. He also belongs to the OpenScienceLab research group, focused on open science research, as well as the Spanish Film Institute and the Millares Carlo Institute.
His main areas of interest are: data journalism; open science; information management relating to audiovisual content, including metadata, databases on audiovisual content and audiovisual technologies; as well as information retrieval and web content management.
Researcher on the projects ‘Heritage preservation of film and television in Spain: the legacy of audiovisual culture in the new digital environment’ (PID2025-174734NB-I00) and ‘Innovation in digital formats to tackle generational eco-anxiety’. He has participated in a further 30 research projects and contracts.
General coordinator of final-year projects in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication (2022–2026), and deputy academic director of the Department of Communication at UC3M (2025-2026).
