Prof. Guillermo Carpintero

Professor Guillermo Carpintero del Barrio

Guillermo Carpintero is Professor, Department of Electronics Technology University Carlos III of Madrid. He has a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from the University Carlos III of Madrid, having received the PhD Prize, having received the title of Telecommunications Engineering at the School of Telecommunications Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He has been a visiting researcher at the Center for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE) at the University of Cambridge and Visiting Professor at University College London.

His research interests are focused on the design of photonic integrated circuits (Photonic Integrated Circuits) and their applications. His current research explores the development of "integrated photonic engines" (optical engines), ie integrated optical systems on a single chip applied to the implementation of wireless communication systems operating in broadband frequencies in the millimeter range (60 GHz - 90 GHz) and sub-terahertz (from 90 GHz to 300 GHz). These are the communications systems must provide high-speed access permit. His research has earned him several awards, including the "Heather Williamson Young Investigator Award" Award of Excellence Social Council of the Carlos III University Award in 2000 from the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) Madrid in 2009 and the Award for Best European Project R & D Cooperation Madri + d Foundation in 2011.

His works have been published in refereed journals in the field of electronics and optoelectronics engineering, such as magazines and Optics Express Optics Letters of the Optical Society of America Journal of Quantum Electronics and Photonics Technology Letters or IEEE. Besides the editorial board of the journal indexed in the ISI Web of Knowledge IET Optoelectronics.
