Professor Guillermo Carpintero del Barrio

Guillermo Carpintero is Professor of the Department of Electronic Technology at University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) and co-director of the Optoelectronics and Laser Technology Group. He received the degree of Telecommunications Engineer in 1993 from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Doctor in Engineering from UC3M in 1999 (Extraordinary Doctorate Award). My field of research is integrated microwave photonics, exploiting photonic-based RF signal generation and processing for 6G communications. Coordinator of three European projects, and principal investigator in another six. He has directed more than 8 doctoral theses, published more than 60 journal articles and 160 conference articles (2 Keynotes, 24 invited). He has received several awards, including the "Heather Williamson Young Investigator Award" in 2000 from SPIE International Society, UC3M Social Council Excellence Award in 2009 and Best European R&D Project in Cooperation Award 2011 from the MadrI+ Foundation. He currently coordinates the RF Photonics chapter of the Integrated Photonic Systems-International (IPRS) international roadmap, senior member of the IEEE society, member of the Fotonica21 platform and an elected member of the Board of Stakeholders of the Photonics21 European technology platform.
