Professor Mª José Sanchez Bueno

María José Sánchez Bueno is Full Professor of Management at the Department of Business Administration, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), Spain. Since 2019, she has served as Deputy Director of INDEM at UC3M. She holds a PhD in Management and a degree in Business Administration from the University of Salamanca.

Her research focuses on strategic management and family business, with particular interest in the intersection between family firms and strategic decisions such as diversification, internationalization, innovation, digitalization, sustainability, and downsizing. Her work has been published in leading journals, including British Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Family Business Review, Group & Organization Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Industrial and Corporate Change, International Business Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of World Business, Organization Studies, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Strategic Management Journal. She has received numerous international awards, and her research is widely cited.

Professor Sanchez-Bueno is a member of the Research Development Team of the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA) and a member of the Family Business Center in Bratislava. She serves as Associate Editor of Long Range Planning (ABS4) and the European Journal of Family Business. She is also a member of the review boards of Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Strategy, and Journal of Business Research, as well as the Advisory Board of the International Journal for Educational and Vocational Guidance. Previously, she served as Associate Editor of BRQ Business Research Quarterly and Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility.

She regularly presents her research at major international conferences, including the Academy of Management (AOM), British Academy of Management (BAM), European Academy of Management (EURAM), IFERA, and the Strategic Management Society (SMS), and serves as a reviewer for numerous journals and conferences. She has participated in several competitively funded research projects, most recently as Principal Investigator, and has acted as an external evaluator for Spanish research agencies, including as a coordinator in the social sciences area.

Professor Sanchez-Bueno has developed an extensive international research network through research visits, collaborations, and invited presentations in countries including Australia, Belgium, Cyprus, France, India, Italy, Morocco, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom, as well as across Latin America.

She has supervised several doctoral dissertations and served as an external examiner and dissertation committee member at universities in different countries. Her teaching spans strategic management and entrepreneurship at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. She is the author of two textbooks on business administration published by Thomson Reuters Civitas and has coordinated several teaching innovation projects. She is also a member of the team behind the MOOC Inclusive Leadership (edX–UC3M), which has been offered in multiple editions.
