Objectives

  • To favor a scientific technical environment that protects and promotes the activities related to the study of problems of scientific and technological interest in Fluid Dynamics, Nanoscience and Industrial Mathematics through modelization, numerical simulation, scientific calculus and experimentation.
  • To stimulate multidisciplinary collaboration in the field of modelization, numeric simulation, scientific calculus and experimentation in Fluid dynamics, Nanoscience and Industrial Mathematics, in a university, like Carlos III, where these disciplines are rooted in different Departments of great scientific level.
  • To organize specific teaching in the field of Modelization and Simulation in Fluid Dynamics, Nanoscience and Industrial Mathematics through a Graduate program (Master’s and Doctorate) with an interuniversity and international vocation which makes the specific training of specialists in the resolution of problems in the industrial field possible. For this purpose, collaboration with technologists and scientists in industry and Universities, many of which with whom long-lastng contact has been established in doctoral projects and teaching in common, would be sought.
  • To improve effectiveness and efficiency in the management of teaching and research resources in the Institute’s thematic fields (detailed below).
  • To equip scientific and experimentation calculus activities with an organic reference center allowing, at the same time, the inclusion of researchers belonging to different knowledge areas.
  • To take advantage of the synergies deriving from the organization of joint activities. Likewise, training as well as technical assistance can play an important part in the Institute’s activities.
  • To launch the Institute’s R+D activities into the European Union and Latin-America. Currently there are many contacts between future researchers at the institute with European and Latin-American institutions working in the modelization, numeric simulation, scientific calculus and experimentation in Fluid Dynamics, Nanoscience, and Industrial Mathematics fields. It is worth noting that there is a tight collaboration with the ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry). Various researchers who will be part of the Institute are Members of ECMI.
  • To create multidisciplinary scientific teams generating appropriate knowledge of the problems related to scientific calculus and experimentation in Fluid Dynamics, Nanoscience and Industrial Mathematics, and the contribution of solutions to these problems in the international scientific community.
  • To promote this knowledge in a comprehensive and sustainable way to contribute to the training and debate of (and with) scientists in the field of modelization, numeric simulation, scientific calculus and experimentation in Fluid Dynamics, Nanoscience and Industrial Mathematics.
  • To create a channel of communication and exchange with specialists and international institutions sharing the Institute’s study goals.
