Objectives

  • To disseminate ideas, techniques and technology that will contribute to improving the roles, aims and activities carried out by information professionals in libraries, archives, documentation centers and museums in the age of the information society.
  • To promote the importance of digital preservation for long-term conservation of digital documents and to help disseminate techniques for information identification, analysis and management, contributing to the effective use of electronic information.
  • To develop research and experimental set-ups regarding tele-education, where organization and management of information flows play a fundamental role.
  • To foment the information culture, based on humanistic principles, emphasizing information as a means of transmitting knowledge and culture, and technology as an instrument for improving communication processes, thereby contributing to the advancement of humankind.

Lines of research

  • Evaluation of information technology and innovation policies oriented to the construction of the knowledge society.
  • Analysis of the processes of convergence toward the knowledge society.
  • Development of social inclusion programs and projects.
  • Creation and implementation of evaluative methods based on indicators by which progress toward the Knowledge Society can be measured.
  • Implementation of contributions in the area of education, particularly those regarding representation, organization, and content recovery and management instruments that seek to optimize the teaching-learning processes geared toward acquisition of informational skills (Information Literacy).
  • Implementation of instruments for improving management and productivity of libraries and information services in the area of technology.
  • Implementation of digital and virtual educational libraries in learning and research resource centers.
  • Establishing experimental e-learning set-ups, where organization and management of information flows play a fundamental role.
  • Development of projects related to the Internet and the health sciences.
  • Design and organization of specialized training programs; organization of events involving professionals in the field, and technical consulting in their area of expertise.
