UC3M participates in Education Week 2022

3/2/22

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is taking part in Education Week from the 2nd – 6th of March, to provide information about its bachelor's degree and postgraduate degree course selection for the 2022/23 academic year. In addition, it is organising RoboticAULA, an activity to learn how to program robots, meetings with female researchers in the Equality Classroom, Artificial Intelligence demonstrations and other scientific outreach activities, as part of the Madrid es Ciencia Fair.

Semana de la Educación

In AULA, the International Student and Educational Offer Fair that takes place in Hall 12 of IFEMA, UC3M will provide information about its bachelor's degree course selection, which has fifty degree programmes. UC3M is one of the Spanish universities with the greatest choice of English and bilingual (35) bachelor's degrees, which represent 74% of its selection. For the first time, the Degree in Robotics Engineering will be introduced, which aims to produce professionals capable of addressing and solving complex problems with a high technological content in the design and implementation of robots.

Furthermore, UC3M will showcase its postgraduate course selection at the International Postgraduate and Continuing Education Fair, which will be held in Hall 14 of IFEMA from the 3rd – 5th March. The offer consists of more than 70 official master's degrees, including four new programmes: the Master’s Degree in Computational Social Sciences; the Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development and Global Governance; the Master’s Degree in European Economic Governance: Law, Politics and Economics; and the Master's Degree in Applied Artificial Intelligence. In addition, UC3M offers many of its own degrees, with a selection made up of 34 continuing education master's degrees, 6 specialisation diplomas and 11 expert diplomas, in addition to other courses, diplomas and seminars.

Other activities in AULA

UC3M is organising the RoboticAULA workshop which provides a first look at the world of robotics in an enjoyable way. 9 micro-robotics workshops will be offered throughout the morning, from the 2nd – 4th of March, for groups of 20 students that will last 30 minutes per session. This workshop, taught by professors from the UC3M Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering and Automation departments, is aimed at students in their fourth year of secondary school studies and A level students. In this activity they will learn how to control the motors of a small mobile robot using the Arduino control board with basic movement commands.

In the Equality Classroom, a space to reflect on these types of issues, UC3M will take part in a speed networking on the 4th of March in two sessions: from 1:30pm to 2:15pm and from 5pm to 5:45pm with "STEM4GirlsUC3M Meetings: discover your vocation by talking to female scientists and engineers from UC3M". This activity will offer the opportunity to meet with researchers from this University programme for the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vocations in girls and young people. The students will be organised into groups of 4 or 5 people and will meet successively with female researchers from the UC3M Higher Polytechnic School (EPS in its Spanish acronym), who will briefly explain their research project, talking with them and answering their questions.

UC3M will be at the stand for the Community of Madrid in AULA, with "Increasing the real world", an Artificial Intelligence system demonstration on the 4th of March from 4pm – 8pm. Attendees will test virtual reality (Oculus Quest) and augmented reality (Microsoft Hololens) applications, among other technologies. These applications have been developed by the Interactive Systems Laboratory (DEI-Lab) of the UC3M Computer Science Department "in order to facilitate learning about genetic editing, facilitate the exploration of large volumes of data and exploit the advantages of these technologies in our own home" says the person in charge of the LSI and this activity, Paloma Díaz, principal of the UC3M Polytechnic School.

UC3M is taking part in the 11th Madrid es Ciencia Fair, which is being held in Hall 14 of IFEMA, with a series of scientific outreach activities to bring together, in an entertaining way, a sample of the R&D&I work carried out at the University in various scientific and technological fields, such as communication, computer science and sound engineering.

At the UC3M stand in the morning, between 10am and 3pm, attendees will be able to experience what the 3D music of the future will be like, testing how our brain works when listening to and locating three-dimensional spatial sound.

During the afternoon shift at the stand, from 3pm to 8pm, you'll be able to learn symmetric cryptography (data encryption and authentication techniques) through Crypto Go, an educational card game created by the researchers themselves. In addition, in the Agora at the Madrid es Ciencia Fair, an interactive and informative talk will take place from 4:30pm to 5pm, on the relationship between archaeology, cinema and video games through the vision of two icons in these areas: Indiana Jones and Lara Croft.
