The UC3M increases its ranking in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) holds prominent positions in 12 academic areas in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021, one more than the previous edition of this international ranking.
The UC3M ranks among the 50 best universities in the world in two subjects: Economics and Econometrics and Library and Information Management. In addition to this, it appears among the Top 100 in two other subject areas: Law and Accounting and Finance. The University ranks among the top 150 universities in the world in four other subject areas: Business Sciences, Statistics and Operational Research, Computer Science and Information Systems, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. For Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering it ranks among the top 200. The University also appears among the top 300 higher education centres for Mathematics and Sociology. It also features once again for Physics and Astronomy.
At the national level, the UC3M is the highest-ranking Spanish university for Economics and Econometrics, and in Statistics and Operational Research. It also ranks second nationally for Library and Information Management, Business Sciences and Law.
At an international level, Spain is the eleventh most represented country in the world in this ranking in terms of the number of outstanding academic subjects at its institutions, with a total of 376 programmes from 34 universities. The world’s leading universities in this ranking are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. While the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich (Switzerland) stands out in Europe.
This study takes four major factors into account: the university’s academic reputation, its reputation in the business world, the average number of citations its research staff have received in scientific publications in the last 5 years, and the “h-index”, which measures both the quantity (productivity) and the quality (impact) of its research activity. To obtain the “h-index”, approximately 14 million scientific articles have been analysed which have generated approximately 81 million citations, and the results of surveys conducted on about 100,000 academics have been taken into account, along with the opinion of around 50,000 employers.
Developed by the British consultancy firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), this world ranking assesses the performance of 14,435 programmes offered by 1,453 universities in 86 countries. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021, which has been published annually since 2011, focuses on a total of 51 academic disciplines (3 more than the previous edition).
