The eighth eMadrid Seminars are being held on 2nd and 3rd July on UC3M’s Puerta de Toledo campus, the institution that coordinates the eMadrid consortium, on which investigators from six public universities from Madrid are collaborating. The seminars, which are targeted at people interested in Cyberlearning and the role of technology in future education, are free and open to anyone previously registered on the project’s website (www.emadridnet.org), where they will be streamed live.

The event is backed by the presence of international speakers who hold great importance in various educational sectors. The objective is to offer a common vision on how the integration of educational technologies is being implemented. They will analyse new concepts in digital education, such as the Makers movement, the MOOCS (free online education platforms), learning analysis, blockchain technology applied to this field, or the teaching of programming and robotics from very young ages, among others.

“Traditional teaching is too focused on the transfer of content by the teacher while the students are passive recipients. We have to find other learning models”, comments Carlos Delgado Kloos, eMadrid coordinator and Vice Chancellor of Strategy and Digital Education at UC3M. “Project-based learning, working together on challenges, and spaces in which students take on an active role are fundamental aspects of future education.”

Experts highlight the importance of strengthening digital social skills. In a large lecture hall, it can be difficult for students to answer the same question in an efficient and detailed manner purely by being present. However, by using, for example, “a mobile app, all students will be able to answer and the result can be presented to the lecturer in an integrated manner”, points out the eMadrid network. In this line, these seminars also include an area to present Spanish start-ups which are innovating in educational technology.
