6/21/18

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is the best young university in Spain, according to the latest QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking. At a global level, it has climbed five positions compared to the previous ranking and comes in at number 22. This ranking lists the 50 best universities in the world aged 50 years or younger.

UC3M occupies top position at the national level and is one of the three Spanish institutions to feature in this ranking, along with Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña and Universidad Pompeu Fabra. Spain stands out due to the number of its universities that feature in the ranking, only surpassed by Australia, Hong Kong and Malaysia and ahead of the other European countries.

For a university to be considered for the QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking, it must meet two criteria: be 49 years of age or younger (UC3M was founded in 1989) and feature on the QS World University Ranking.

Drawn up by the British consultancy firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the ranking assesses the performance of universities in the areas of research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. To do this, it uses six indicators: the academic reputation of the institution, its reputation among employers, the citations which its researchers’ scientific publications receive, the student/teacher ratio and its ability to attract international students and teachers from abroad.
