UC3M rises in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018

It ranks 90th in the world in Social Sciences and Business Administration

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) holds noteworthy spots in 13 of the 31 academic fields for which it has been assessed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018. With respect to last year’s edition, it has improved in three broad areas: Social Sciences and Business Administration, where it has gained 31 spots; Engineering and Technology rose 26 positions, and Arts and Humanities, where it went up 3 places.

In this edition, the area of Social Sciences and Business Administration are ranked 90th in the world. Within this area the academic subject of Library & Information Management stand out, which was assessed the first time in this ranking, and where UC3M holds the 22nd spot, together with Economics & Econometrics, which are ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide.  Also going up in the rankings are Law and Accounting & Finance, subjects ranked within the top 100 in the world.

In addition, UC3M likewise bettered its ranking in Computer Science & Information Systems, where its stands out as one of the best 150 universities in the world, as it does with Statistics & Operational Research. It appears in the top 200 in other academic fields such as Business & Management Studies and Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Lastly, UC3M is also among the top 300 institutions of higher learning in Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Mathematics, Linguistics and Sociology.

Elaborated by the British consultancy, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), this world ranking analyzes and assesses 4,522 universities throughout the world. The 2018 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, which has been published annually since 2011, analyzes 48 academic fields, (two more than last year).

This study considers factors such as academic reputation, employer reputation, the number of citations per researcher in scientific publications, and its H index, which measures the quantity (productivity) as well as the quality (impact) of its scientific activity.  The universities are evaluated in accordance with the  parameters of quality in research and teaching.
