UC3M awards 2017 Alumni Scholarships

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), through its foundation, has awarded 12 2017 Alumni Scholarship to outstanding students from outside Madrid  who beginning their bachelor’s degree courses at the University this term.

The awards ceremony took place on October 19th at the Professors’ Club on the Getafe campus of UC3M. At the ceremony, there were speeches by the rector, Juan Romo, the Vice-Rector for Students, María Luisa González-Cuéllar, Lucía Fernández del Viso Morán, the Deputy Director-General of 13TV and UC3M Alumni donor since 2012, Manuel Ausaverri, the Director of Strategy, Innovation and Media Relations at Indra, and José Luis Fuentes Alcaide, a law student sponsored by Coca-Cola. The latter  received an Alumni Scholarship.  in 2014.

Each scholarship is worth 3,000 euros per academic year (12,000 euros for the whole degree program) and requires the student to maintain a good academic record. Every year, there are 12scholarships awarded, and to date, 72 students have received this financial aid. The scholarships pertain to the Solidarity Grants Program and are earmarked for students with a good academic record and limited economic resources, helping them to move and settle in Madrid to study at UC3M. Students commit to returning 50% of the sum within five to 15 years after they graduate so that the reimbursed sums can be used to subsidize new scholarships.

The Alumni Scholarships get their name from former UC3M students who wish to see other young people study at the same university.  The grants are subsidized by alumni, the university community, private individuals, companies and institutions. The donations, in their different forms, can be made throughout the year via the UC3M Alumni web site (https://aa.uc3m.es/colabora) and are destined in their entirety to funding the scholarships.

In addition to individual contributions from former students, the University Community and figures from different fields such as writers Rosa Montero and Lorenzo Silva and the president of Solaria, Enrique Díaz-Tejeiro, the following entities also collaborate: Academic Partnerships, Acciona, ACM, Airbus Group, Axa, Baker & McKenzie, Banco Popular, Casico, CESyA, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Ericsson, the DAMM Foundation, the Ebro Foundation, the ONCE Foundation, the Hospital Gregorio Marañón Foundation for Biomedical Research, the Ramón Areces Foundation, the Urrutia Elejalde Foundation, Inditex, La Caixa, Indra, Mercedes Benz, Olmata, OHL, Philips, PWC, Roboticlabs, Volkswagen Audi-Spain and Zardoya Otis.
