UC3M doubles its audiovisual impact in R+D+i news

3/23/17

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)’s audiovisual presence in R+D+i has undergone exponential growth.  This is reported in the 2016 dossier which monitors web and media impact, prepared by the Oficina de Información Científica (OIC) of the Vicerrectorado de Comunicación y Cultura (Office of Scientific Information of UC3M’s Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Communication and Culture).

La UC3M duplica su impacto audiovisual en noticias sobre I+D+i

This new report reveals a total of 94 videos disseminated in 2016, representing an inter-annual increase of 135 percent with respect to 2015.  This significant increment is also reflected in the number of views per news item: approximately 73,000 in 2016 (27,781 and 45,255 in YouTube and social networks, respectively), in contrast to a total of 45,000 views during the preceding year. This represents an approximate rise of 66 percent as a consequence of the Institution strengthening its commitment to audiovisual dissemination.

The press notes diffused by the OIC have been covered by outstanding newspaper, such as ABC, El Mundo, El País and La Vanguardia, and have been included by principal news agencies, such as Europa Press  EFE, Europa Press and Servimedia. On average, each news ítem on UC3M R+D+i   has appeared in 68 communication media and other webs  Around 60 percent of the items published have been present in public television channels and radio stations.

At the same time, press notes on UC3M R+D+I continue to be disseminated in specialized national platforms for these types of contents, such as the Notiweb bulletin of the autonomous Community of Madrid’s madri+d system, the News Agency for Science and Technology of the Institute for Scientific and Technological Studies (Agencia de Noticias para la divulgación de la Ciencia y Tecnología  del Instituto de Estudios de la Ciencia y la Tecnología -- DiCYT) and the Scientific News and Information Service (Servicio de Información y Noticias Científicas -- SINC) of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología – FECYT).

The internationalization of its communications is likewise noteworthy, with impact throughout a wide range of countries on the five continents: Europe (Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, etc.), America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, etc.), Asia (Bahrain, China, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, among others), Africa (Kenya, Morocco and South Africa, for example) and Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and Samoa). This reveals the impact capacity of the international platforms for scientific information with which UC3M collaborates- platforms which disseminate news stories in Spanish, English and China, such as the European research news service AlphaGalileo and EurekAlert!, the global online service for news in science, medicine and technology of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

UC3M’s Office of Scientific Information (OIC) is linked to the Community of Madrid’s Scientific Information Offices (Oficinas de Información Científica) and to the Network of Units of Scientific Culture and Innovation (Red de Unidades de Cultura Científica e Innovación -- UCC+i), with support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología -- FECYT) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
