The 5th edition of T3chFest, the Computer Science and New Technologies Fair, will be held on February 9 and 10 at the Leganés Auditorium of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). At the T3chFest, more than a dozen leading computer and new technologies companies will collaborate to share the latest sector trends with the visitors. Keynote speakers at this year’s edition are Sofía Benjumea, the Director of Google Campus, and Manel Pujol, the Director of Operations of Uber España. Engineers from Amazon, Hewlett Packard, IBM and Microsoft, among others, will also participate.

The goal of T3chFest, which is geared to students and sector professionals alike, is to promote interest in technology and publicize the development and application of the latest technologies. Among the topics that will be addressed over the course of the two-day fair in the 68 scheduled events are artificial intelligence, robotics, video games, augmented reality, the Internet of Things, micro services and computer security.

At the fair, there will be an exhibitors’ space where visitors will find more than a dozen stands. Accenture, Autentia, BBVA, GMV and Gigas are among the companies that could be represented. Furthermore, in addition to showing the new technologies they use (360-degree cameras, virtual and augmented reality sets, Hololenses, etc.), the companies will take advantage of the occasion to recruit talent and evaluate the resumes of those interested in working or interning for them.

Parallel Activities

In the context of T3chFest, a wide range of parallel activities will also be held as a prelude to one of the most important technology fairs in the region. On February 4, there will be a hackathon about the Internet of Things and a special programming contest for groups of three participants. The contest is sponsored by Phillips, which will provide kits of smart bulbs. The challenge is to propose ideas on how to use and implement them.  Further information: https://t3chfest.uc3m.es/2017/concursos/

On February 7 and 8, there will be a competition which one can take part in from home. In the 48 hours it lasts, competitors have to pass six tests of increasing difficulty with their knowledge in the programming language of their choice, such as Java, C++, Python, PHP, etc. The winners will receive a Play Station 4 Pro with different accessories, a GoPro camera or a drone. On February 8, there will also be a conference for secondary and technological school students, who will be able to attend educational talks and workshops to gain insight on how technology and engineering impact daily life. During this event, there will be workshops on mobile communications, cryptography, Drawdio and 3D printing. The students can take home the objects that they produce.

To top things off, UC3M will host the first classifying round of Google Hashcode 2017, the international programming contest promoted by Google. At UC3M, there will be a “hub,” a place where competitors can meet for the four and a half hours of the competition. The event will be held on February 23 from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m. on the Leganés Campus. Registration at: https://t3chfest.uc3m.es/2017/hashcode
